5.0 out of 5 stars Hooked on Mexican Train Dominoes

1.0 out of 5 stars Pretty fun at first but...
This is the first time I ever leave a negative feedback on Amazon! I bought this item about two weeks ago. At first the train sounds were audible but after almost no use (2 times) the volume went drastically down. I thought that it was due to the batteries as they were probably aging in the packaging. First disappointment: Instead of using regular AA or AAA batteries,...

My brother bought a Mexican Train Dominoes set for my step-daughter two years ago and we'd never learned how to play it. While visiting family this year for Christmas we finally learned how to play and were instantly hooked. I came back home and dragged out the set my brother had bought and thanks to a friend's toddlers who were playing with it one day it was already missing half of the trains. It also had a boring hub that didn't make any cool train noises like my nephew's set that we'd learned on at Christmas. This Hub set is very cool. It makes realistic train noises when you press down in the center of the hub, and I love the toy train track look of the hub itself...way better than my old one - flimsy, flat piece of plastic with sharp edges. The trains are also designed with a leg on the back that rests on a lip on the hub so they stay put better during play. I wasn't crazy about the trains themselves because they're translucent with silver glitter in them, but my 11-year-old step-daughter thinks they're pretty so I guess I can live with them. I wish the set would have come with some score pads, because my original set didn't come with any, but I just created my own on the computer and can print them out as I need them.

This is the first time I ever leave a negative feedback on Amazon! I bought this item about two weeks ago. At first the train sounds were audible but after almost no use (2 times) the volume went drastically down. I thought that it was due to the batteries as they were probably aging in the packaging. First disappointment: Instead of using regular AA or AAA batteries, this toy comes with 3 bottom cell batteries that you need to take out from a less than a 1/2" compartment where they are clustered. I finally made it and were able to take them out of the compartment.
Second disappointment: I got the new batteries and when I inserted them... NO SOUND!! I checked polarity just in case I overlooked, but they were correctly placed. I then tried with the old ones and guess what??? No Sound either. If I could return it, I would but it is more expensive to pay the S&H than the actual toy. Fate decided that I will have a pretty-looking train hub for Mexican Train with no sound... I guess that's the price to pay for a Chinese product or I got a LEMON!!

This extra piece has an added fun value. Although only used by us adults (no children around) it seems to have brought out an inner child. Must have something to do with the sound of the train whistle. I would recommend this as an added bonus to the basic dominoes game.

Ok, so this is a nicety, not necessity, but a fun splurge none the less. Yes, the flat plastic piece that comes with many domino sets will work, but this is way more fun! A few of my dominoes are very snug in the center (a couple got stuck), but its not a major problem. The train whistle is amusing...it only sounds once when you put the center domino in. The small tabs on the stations help keep your train in place.

5.0 out of 5 stars mexican train sound effects, December 14, 2008

this addition to the Mexican Train Dominos makes the game so much more fun to play. It creates the sound of the train going along the tracks and the choo choo sound. Highly need this function if your Mexican Train Set did not include this feature.

This toy is a perfect adjunct to the Mexican Train Domino game, especially for children. They love pushing the tile to make the choo choo sound. Only complaint, uses expensive batteries!

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute accessory, but...., December 13, 2007
= Durability:2.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:3.0 out of 5 stars

This is a cute accessory, but the quality control is not the best. The first one I ordered (from Uncle Bob's game store) was missing the black train. I contacted the manufacturer, Fundex, and they will send me one (I am still waiting). The second one I ordered (through Amazon) came from Hammond toys. It had a dead battery, which we changed. It was a gift, so we had to explain why the package was taped. Otherwise, this is a really fun addition to Mexican Train.

I ordered this product because my sister had one at her home. It makes Mexican Dominos more fun. The slot that holds the domino in the station and makes the noise gets stuck pretty easily.

I highly recommend this hub if you like playing Mexican Train. It helps keep each new train station in order, no confusing lines, and the sound effect of the train whistle when the top is pressed adds the right touch. Toot, toot!
