This review is from: Fundex Phase 10 Card Game (Toy)
This is a rummy-type game for nearly all ages. It is easy enough for the younger elementary age children (it is rated 8+), but my college-age nieces and nephews love playing it, and it is the current "game night" choice for my adult friends. Because it works for a wide age range, it is a great game for families to play. You can play it with as few as two people but it is more fun and more competitive to play with a larger group.
The cards come in suits of four different colors and numbered 1-12, with Wild and Skip cards. The game has 10 "phases" or "melds" (e.g. two sets of 3, a set of 3 and run of 4, run of 7, 7 cards of one color) and you need to complete them in order. If someone else goes out by getting rid of all his or her cards before you complete your current phase, you have to try again the next hand. When someone goes out, all the rest of the players have to count the points in their hands and add them to their scores. When you play with a larger group, it gets more difficult because it is more likely another person will go out before you have completed your phase and leave you with a handful of points.
My friends and I enjoy playing it because it is not so simple as to be boring but not so complicated that we can't talk and snack while we are playing.
I like this newer version of the cards because the Skip cards are now black and not in the colors of the four suits, thus eliminating the inevitable argument that they should be allowed in the phase of 7 cards of one color.

Although the game itself is great, there's nothing "Deluxe" about this version of the game. The tin box for the game is huge and unnecessary, the card holder does nothing to keep the decks from sloshing around, and the cards themselves feel of less quality than the Mattel version. Don't waste even a dollar more on this so-called "Deluxe" package, just buy the Mattel set.
