5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on fundraising
The focus of this book is that God is the provider of your support and he uses real people to do it.

I too was sceptical of the "ask" focus of this book when I first read it. However, having re-read the book and been to the seminar by www.thebodybuilders.net (highly recommended) I am convinced that sharing your vision for ministry and asking for support...

2.0 out of 5 stars Very American maybe, but very unBiblical
First of all I need to say, I do have great respect for the author as a Christian brother and I know that he is well intentioned. I am also writing this reiew as a missionary serving in an expensive country like Japan and as one who knows the stress and difficulties of support raising.

The book certainly has a good number of helpful things from which I was encouraged...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book on fundraising, March 10, 2005

The focus of this book is that God is the provider of your support and he uses real people to do it.

I too was sceptical of the "ask" focus of this book when I first read it. However, having re-read the book and been to the seminar by www.thebodybuilders.net (highly recommended) I am convinced that sharing your vision for ministry and asking for support face-to-face is very appropriate. Did your husband send you an e-mail asking you to marry you? Did you hope your wife would figure out eventually that you wanted her to marry you? No, you asked in person because it was too important to leave to an e-mail, prayer letter or osmosis.

As to whether this approach is UNbiblical... Just because something is not mentioned in the Bible does NOT make it unbiblical. If so, going to a baseball game would be unbiblical.

Also, to set the record straight about George Mueller... Yes, technically the man never "asked" for money but every time he spoke (in front of tens of thousands of people over time) he shared stories of how God provided in amazing ways at the last possible moment and then said: "but I've never asked anyone for money but God." Well, that may not be asking, but it sure is back-door asking.

So, you may not agree with everything in this book but it is VERY helpful if you need to know where to start in funding your ministry.

5.0 out of 5 stars perspective changer!, May 29, 2007
By
This review is from: Funding Your Ministry: Whether You're Gifted or Not (Paperback)
This book changed my perspective on fund-raising! I now no longer dread this task, but eagerly anticipate what God will teach/show me about His provision through His people!
The humor in Morton's stories and Stayskal's illustrations keep this potentially dry subject very fresh.
I highly recommend this book for rookies and veterans in the support raising arena!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Funding Your Ministry: Whether You're Gifted or Not (Paperback)
This book was recommended to us a an experienced fund-raiser (which we are not!) It was incredibly helpful to us, not just with mechanics and how-to's, but also with attitudes and spiritual issues. I recommend it for anyone who is faced with having to raise their own support for their Christian ministry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Helpful Tool for Ministry, January 9, 2007
This review is from: Funding Your Ministry: Whether You're Gifted or Not (Paperback)
Funding Your Ministry may not be for the weak of heart, but if you are involved in ministry that requires raising your own support, it is a must read. The Bible study is eye opening and freeing and will help you see rasising your support as an intrigal part of your ministry. A must read for all workers raising up their own support teams.

5.0 out of 5 stars Biblical, practical, the best, February 25, 2011
This review is from: Funding Your Ministry: Whether You're Gifted or Not (Paperback)
Simply speaking, this is the one book I recommend. We used this for missionary fundraising and had excellent results. It was given to us by our mission agency, WorldVenture (formerly Conservative Baptist International).

I've done a bit of research and some publishing on Paul's fundraising methods. I was very pleased to see that Morton did not simply give the reader practical tips, but actually sought to prove his case (successfully) by the apostolic model. Some Christian workers have the idea that everyone is called to be a George Muller, and that we need only pray for support. Others send out hundreds of letters and get almost no response. Morton deals with these issues and others and analyzes the theology and practice that lie behind various models.

But this is not simply a theology of fundraising - he helps you develop what to say, how to present yourself, and so forth.

5.0 out of 5 stars Used For Ministry Partnership Training at MAF, August 11, 2007
This review is from: Funding Your Ministry: Whether You're Gifted or Not (Paperback)
We used this text in our Ministry Partnership (fund raising) training at Mission Aviation Fellowship. I found that it answered a few theological questions that I had about fund raising very well. It was also a very practical how-to book
