Allows all to feel different with the cuts with each listening. Full sound with the horns, great arrangements. They even sound the same during live performance - Saw them at Maple Leaf Bar in New Orleans 12-98.

Like so much of this distinctive New Orleans funk/R&B/blues fushion this is the kind of music that is infinitely better live. Come see him at the Mapel Leaf, Tipitina's, Bank St. Bar, at JazzFest, and it is a whole other experience from the CD. He has been a Cresent City fixture since the 70s and still plays several high energy shows per week around the city.Even though this music is really made to be heard in person, the disc version is utterly infectious. Give it two listens and you will be hooked. Wolfman's voice is unremarkable, and the material is pretty typical. What places this set apart is the incredible energy, great rythum section, and the emotional honesty. Good production values, amazing horns. If you like this disc, I'd recommend checking out Mem Shannon, who has a similar sound but even more energy and a better voice.

It's been a lot of years since I encountered the Wolfman in New Orleans in a place my favorite employee knew about. I don't have favorite employees any longer, which has nothing to do with the way this guy can play the blues. I'd really like to see Walter team up on stage with B.B. King down here in the Keys some day. I'd love to see Baltimore Picture pick up one of his tracks for their network products.<like Homocide>, for example <are their rules about referencing a private organization that's in the public domaine? I hope not.> Let me know if there's a site link to Walter's Blues, please Mista AMZN... This is likely one of the best of a handful of CDs of the year (which includes Ry Cooder's Cuban CD...whoops, I probably just stepped out of AMZN's parameters again. Drop it your e-shopping cart and it'll come right to your mailbox. Walter is kind of a penny stock that could sell 224K items this year and rank in the twenties or thirties. That's a little amaz'n, running into a pre-tax profit in the tens of millions of dollars just because there's a new way to send out the blues. |
