This was a band that was a welcome relief from the over abundance of the hair bands of hard rock that had made the scene a bit stale. Guns N'Roses had taken over and had begun to stir it up a bit, but were bent on self destruction and all those other bands were clamering to change their sound to make it sound "modern"; a band like Electric Boys comes out and makes a funky, mellow, and even heavy album that just fills in a gap. It's sorta a mix of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and some other bands like Kings X, Saigon Kick, and even maybe Extreme to name a few that kinda snuck in to fill in time before the Grunge movement took over. Sadly this sound faded all too quickly. This fits more into an alternative rock format that maybe a band like Jane's Addiction might have been kings of.
From the opening of "Psychedelic Eyes", and the anthemic stripper theme "Lips 'N Hips" which sounds kinda cheesy by todays standards I admit. But later on it get's funky, and it get's so heavy and melodic you can't resist. It just sounds like they are having a good time making the record. "The Change" just lifts you up, a great song if you are indeed heading for a change in your life perhaps. So many great rock songs on here. Groovus Maximus is a pretty good CD also, and I'm curious to hear the newest "Freewheelin'" , but for now this will do for me.

Great vocals, great music, songs all different,if you like Glenn Hughes you will like this band!.I would not class this as a hair band thier music is more talented than that.I never heard of them before and took a chance and I was really pleased; that I ordered the other 2 cd's of thiers. They play heavy metal, melodies, foot stompen, funk metal, that you will play the cd over and over again!

Almost Aerosmith,

This album sounds like what Aerosmith might have become if they'd moved to Scandinavia instead of doing Permanent Vacation and Pump.
Conny Bloom isn't quite the wild and crazy guy that Steve Tyler was and is, but this was a promising start. One more album (Groovus Maximus) came out in the states, but Nirvana sabotaged anything that might have come forward from here. Too bad-- this band was COOL.

I've been looking all over for this CD. I truly love "All Lips 'N' Hips" and it gets me in the mood when I'm getting ready to go bar hopping! My husband loves to watch me dance to this song with all my girlfriends..... I went to itunes to download the CD but it ISN'T there! I couldn't believe it - I thought itunes had just about everything. Oh well, I'm truly loving this entire CD... I truly recommend getting this CD for your collection.... ENJOY! I KNOW WE WILL!

Electric Boys knew how to rock, this cd is awesome. Plus it has like 8 bonus tracks. A "must have" if you dig 80's hair metal/glam rock.

3 Stars = Good
In 1989, Sweden's, the Electric Boys, released "Funk O Metal Carpet Ride," another entry into the funk/metal sweepstakes that rose up in the very late 80's to early 90's. Much like another band of that time, Extreme, the Electric Boys performed a competent, & sometimes very inspired version of funk/metal built on the shoulders of 70's seminal acts in this sub genre like Pat Travers & Mahogany Rush. Though no where near as adapt or groundbreaking as those bands, the Electric Boys were still a band that was worth a listen & took the right cues from the right bands to funk it up right. "Funk O Metal Carpet Ride," had its share of exciting musical passages & time changes, funky rhythms, & tasty guitar. Their singer was pretty good to, & there was a pinch of Beatlesque sound to some of the harmonies & music on this album. The center piece song for me was "Captain of My Soul," a rip roaring Pat Travers like song if there ever was one on this album. Catchy, hook & riff driven funk/metal of the kind I enjoy very much. It's just too bad that the rest of the album was not up to that standard, not that it was bad, it wasn't, but "Captain of My Soul" just ruled! The rest....well they more or less served "Funk O Metal Carpet Ride," to a good extent, being competent, if not always truly inspiring. Even so, if you have a funk/metal Jones like me, you could do a hell of a lot worse than "Funk O Metal Ride!" After "Funk O Metal Carpet Ride," the Electric Boys put out "Groovus Maximus," which tried to live up to it's name, but just did get the funk/metal out like the first & the band started to dissolve. Then after their third "Freewheelin', disappeared all together, never to be heard of again....

This cd is great for a couple of reasons: it rocks and it is a pre-cursor to some things yet to come. For example, the half-rapped vocals in "Lips-n-Hips" came well before Kidd Rock went platinum. The bass grooves laid down in these tunes have been done many times over since, but were new when this came out. A very original band that had some killer tunes and rocked all the way through. If you like hard rock with some heavy grooves, check this out. It is excellent!

I owned this CD when I was in my 20's. I let it go, thinking I would never listen to it again in my 30's. A few months ago, I wanted to hear it again. I popped it in the CD player the minute I got it. If you enjoy the hard rock sound from the 80's and early 90's you will enjoy this CD. The "All Lips n' Hips" song was the popular song from this CD.

A fresh blend of heavy metal and funk,
By
This review is from: Funk-O-Metal Carpet (Audio CD)
Electric Boys' music is a blend of heavy metal and funk, but not in the Red Hot Chili Pepper way. Electric Boys have their roots in heavy metal and combining that with a decent amount of funk, while RHCP's doing the opposite. This album (which by the way exist in two different versions with some songs in common) is their finest. It sounded very fresh when it first was released in the late 1980's, and it's still sounding good. After a couple of albums (three?) the band quit and front man Conny Bloom (vocals/guitar) went for a solo career. Sadly, Bloom on his own is not good at all. While Electric Boys were very unique, Bloom is just boring.
