4.0 out of 5 stars It's Like That, It's Like That, It's Da Brat!!, November 11, 2001
This review is from: Funkdafied (Audio CD)
Well this is Da Brat's debut album. Fresh and right out the gate with no apologies. Her first song she came out with was Funkdafied which was scrait butter.

Some other reviewers have said that she sounds like a female Snoop Dogg. Well the truth is, on this record she does a little bit on some songs! Got the same type of laid-back vibe as Snoop except from a woman's perspective. That can be either good or bad depending on your tastes.

This album, released in 94, is party oriented with digestable and memorable lyrics complete with catchy choruses and grooves provided by JD. Seven of the nine songs are tight. Fa All Ya'll is my favorite song on the lp as it is incredibly funky and head nodding. Definite satisfaction. Other notable songs include Funkdafied, Fire It Up, Celebration Time, May Da Funk Be Witcha, Come And Get Some, Mind Blowin and Give It To You. The First Song Da Ish ya can't Mess With is plain wack with no redeeming qualities and Aint No Thang is mediocre.

Overall A nicely done, promising album from Da Brat. This is where it all started and it put her on the map. I recommend this debut.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jams 2 Bounce 2, June 20, 2006

Chi Town's own Da Brat created a scene with FunkDaFied in 1994. The album is fully loaded with mid 90's G-Funk jams that ah get your head noddin. Jermaine Dupri's production here is top notch, and Da Brat's lyrical ability is evident. She can flow tight, and even though her lyrics may not be the deepest, she really knows how to get the partay jumpin'. Interestingly, Some of her catch phrases may bring to mind Snoop Doggy Dogg. The title track, and "Fa All Y'all," got mad radio play back in '94 and early '95, but the album has much more to offer. She has sass, and she proves she is as tough as the next male MC, and she can hang. All in all, a dope, if slept on, release.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good debut by the O.G. Funk Bandit, May 2, 1999

This review is from: Funkdafied (Audio CD)
The album is very funky. I love the way they use the synthesizers on the album. It's very funk influenced and it's bumpin'. This is defintely the type of album that you bump in your system, whether you're on the highway or your room or on your discman. It's a hot CD. I've listened to this album a few minutes ago and it's still as fresh as it was 4 years ago. The only drawbacks of the album are the filler songs like "Ain't No Thang" and "Come And Get Some." But overall, the album is bumpin' and a must for anyone that likes g-funk.
