4.0 out of 5 stars It's Like That, It's Like That, It's Da Brat!!
Well this is Da Brat's debut album. Fresh and right out the gate with no apologies. Her first song she came out with was Funkdafied which was scrait butter.

Some other reviewers have said that she sounds like a female Snoop Dogg. Well the truth is, on this record she does a little bit on some songs! Got the same type of laid-back vibe as Snoop except from a...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good debut by the O.G. Funk Bandit
The album is very funky. I love the way they use the synthesizers on the album. It's very funk influenced and it's bumpin'. This is defintely the type of album that you bump in your system, whether you're on the highway or your room or on your discman. It's a hot CD. I've listened to this album a few minutes ago and it's still as fresh as it was 4 years ago. The only...

Got the same type of laid-back vibe as Snoop except from a woman's perspective. That can be either good or bad depending on your tastes.

This album, released in 94, is party oriented with digestable and memorable lyrics complete with catchy choruses and grooves provided by JD. Seven of the nine songs are tight. Fa All Ya'll is my favorite song on the lp as it is incredibly funky and head nodding. Definite satisfaction. Other notable songs include Funkdafied, Fire It Up, Celebration Time, May Da Funk Be Witcha, Come And Get Some, Mind Blowin and Give It To You. The First Song Da Ish ya can't Mess With is plain wack with no redeeming qualities and Aint No Thang is mediocre.

Overall A nicely done, promising album from Da Brat. This is where it all started and it put her on the map. I recommend this debut.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jams 2 Bounce 2, June 20, 2006

Chi Town's own Da Brat created a scene with FunkDaFied in 1994. The album is fully loaded with mid 90's G-Funk jams that ah get your head noddin. Jermaine Dupri's production here is top notch, and Da Brat's lyrical ability is evident. She can flow tight, and even though her lyrics may not be the deepest, she really knows how to get the partay jumpin'. Interestingly, Some of her catch phrases may bring to mind Snoop Doggy Dogg. The title track, and "Fa All Y'all," got mad radio play back in '94 and early '95, but the album has much more to offer. She has sass, and she proves she is as tough as the next male MC, and she can hang. All in all, a dope, if slept on, release.

But overall, the album is bumpin' and a must for anyone that likes g-funk.

3.0 out of 5 stars Funk-Dafied!, September 8, 2010
This review is from: Funkdafied (Audio CD)
I think Da Brat, is confused.. That being said because of her outragous dressing style, and boyish pass photos i think her appeal was to women, nevertheless, I think she's extremely GOREGOUS! so i'm not hatin' As for her album i give it a 3 this was her debut,& by far her Best! however this rating deserves a 5 ONLY if it was the SINGLE! thats why the single sells for more than the actual album... get the single! It's FUNK- DAFIED!

Da Brat was hot when I was in high school. I remember all the girls (including myself) copied her signature twisties. I had the "Funkdified" cassette and I would listen to it everyday on my walkman at school. This is one of my favorite rap albums.

Jermaine Dupri, and the So So Def record label, hasn't put out that many good album, only a few. And this is one of them. The best songs are Funkdafied, and Give It 2 You. Da Brat's hit Funkdafied has some awesome gangsta rap beats, and some good lyrics as well. Give It 2 You is one of the best songs on this album. Just like Funkdafied, and the rest of this album, it has great beats, and great lyrics. It even topped the charts in 1995. Funkdafied, and Give It 2 You are the best songs, but the rest of the album is good as well. This album is a must have.

3.0 out of 5 stars Best import CD, quality sound and lyrics, April 26, 1999

I came across the CD in 1995 when I was studying in England. I bougth it immediately when I laid my eyes on it. I am crazy about Da Brat, she's beautiful, intelligent and has nice voice too. Her fast rhymes and rap tunes are well orchestrated and executed. Thanks to Jarmain Dupri of SoSoDef for unearthing such brilliant talent. They both make a perfect combination. I hope you'll come down to South Africa for the long awaited tour. We are starved of Hip Hop gigs down here. The only groups that ever come to our shores are R&Bs.I also like the remix album especially track no.1 and no.7 that features the late Notorius B.I.G.

Da Brat came onto the rap scene in 1994 under the guidance of hitmaker Jermaine Dupri. She came across as an arrogant thug. In fact, she carried the demeanor of a male. From the clothes she wore to this album's subject matter, she could easily remind one of a male. Also, something most male rappers are known for is rapping about how good/great they are and how much weed they smoke. Da Brat does this repeatedly on her debut. Male rappers also reiterate what town they are from. While listening to "Funkdafied", you are going to hear Da Brat tell you she is from Chicago over and over again. Don't misunderstand me, this woman is talented. She can flow, and she doesn't sound half bad either. Some of the things she said impressed me. She truly doesn't receive her just do as a female rapper because rap fans usually don't mention her when they talk about the best female emcees. She's better than most of the females rappers I have heard, so she deserves most credit that she receives.

The production on this album is really good. Jermaine Dupri used a lot of reminiscent George Clinton sounds, and that is innovative, but he uses them one too many times. 80% of the album had that "funk" sound. Producers need to be aware that they cannot overuse the same sound on an album because most listeners will grow fatigued of it very quickly.

I recommend this album to rap fans. Though its not a must have, some of the tracks are pretty essential.

Mikeisha's Top 5
1. Fa All Ya'll
2. Funkdafied
3. Give It 2 You
4. Fire it Up
5. Come and Get Some
