5.0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal disc, but don't buy it, September 1, 2003

This is definitely funk at it's best. Maceo and the JB Horns are the funkiest horn section and singers, and they are working with The Meters, who are pioneers in funk music. Absolutely amazing. However, realize that the artists were not paid for this disc. Before you buy it here, check at the message board at the Funky Meters website, where someone can get you a much better price on this one. Same with Volume 2. Rather than support a foreign company who doesn't pay the artist, get it from someone else who doesn't screw the musicians.

you combine the Meters with The JB Horns&you have a knock out Live Set that will keep you sweating non-stop from all the grooves.you get a strong balance of Meters&JB Jams all rolled into one the results are a knockout on the stage.

Fantasic Set, but one thing missing... "Poppa Funk" Art Neville, is absent. In my humble opinion, The Meters aren't The Meters without Him. What I'm waiting on is "Fiyo at the Fillmore" Volume 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars Funk summit !, March 11, 2002

Let's put it this way, imagine a "Musical Gumbo" made up from the best ingredients that's what you have with this CD !
Two of the original members of the Meters plus the excellent drummer Russel Baptiste and Keyboardist David Torkanowsky, joined for this event by the legendary JB's Horns aka Macéo Parker, Pee Wee Ellis and Fred Wesley.
Almost the best lineup for the Funk music(of course Bootsy Collins and Sly will be welcome but !)

This fantastic meeting present a mix of Meter's hits and JB's sucess. The sound quality is very good for a live recording, the feeling is extremely easy and the music is great. I like particulary People's Say and Funky good time.

Let's get FUNKYFIED
