4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, fast read
The stories are broken up in a way that would make it great reading while you are waiting -- at an airport or dr. office -- each story only takes a minute or two to read.

This was a funny, fast read. Some of the stories were better than others, but on the whole, I really enjoyed this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars I'd hate to see the unfunniest stories...
There's nothing funny, wacky or for the most part even mildly amusing in this book. In particular there was one story where two cops were so lazy and uninterested in doing their jobs they dragged the body of a homeless person across the street so some other police division would have to deal with it. Homeless or not that was a human being and they treated him like a sack...

There's nothing funny, wacky or for the most part even mildly amusing in this book. In particular there was one story where two cops were so lazy and uninterested in doing their jobs they dragged the body of a homeless person across the street so some other police division would have to deal with it. Homeless or not that was a human being and they treated him like a sack of garbage. In another story two officers use a transgender prisoner to play a prank on another officer. Deplorable behavior shouldn't be showcased as humor.

I got this book (poorly formatted at that) on my Kindle for $0.00 and I think I paid too much.

Skip this. It's trash.

I'm a cop and I didn't find these stories to be funny at all. Some even sounded made up. Disapointed with this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars This does nothing to alleviate the public's low opinion of police officers!, November 5, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Some of the stories were more amusing than others.

But it definitely confirms the racism that is suspected to exist in the police force. I'm not anti-establishment and I have nothing against police officers, but I find the unapologetic bigotry in this book off-putting. The surprising thing wasn't the attitudes, it was the fact that they would put this out there to show the world.
I'm from the deep South, but even the most hateful bigot would be hesitant to share such overtly prejudiced viewpoints in a public forum.

I'm glad the book was free, and before I sign off I should probably address the disrespect shown for a dead body that's mentioned in one story. I hope that public servants would show me a little more respect if they came across my corpse, no matter the weather. Sheesh! Homeless or not, these are human beings and deserve respect.

I realize that one must develop a thick skin and dissociate from certain events in order to retain one's sanity, but I don't think that excuses sharing those attitudes with the public one serves.

If I were a member of the force, I would be unappreciative of this book, due to the negative light it casts upon the organization.

1.0 out of 5 stars Garbage, November 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I stopped reading when I got to the story (very close to the beginning of the book) about the officers who were dragging a homeless man's body back & forth across the street so they didn't have to deal with doing their job. Absolutely disgusting. I'm deleting this book from my reader because it makes me sick. If you find this amusing, there's something wrong with you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Guess you had to be there..., November 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I read the whole book, thinking it would get better...it did not. In defense of the author and the officers that submitted some of the stories, there are times when retelling "funny" stories fall flat, simply because "you had to be there."

I did not find this book funny at all. It did not even make me smile, let alone laugh.

I say the above as a reviewer. I say the following as a LEO: it is no wonder that the public's perception of our professionalism is declining. In many ways, we bring it on ourselves. Whatever value this book may have had in making other LEO's laugh is negated by what the public will see as crass, immature, rude and unprofessional behavior. And even as a LEO, I can't blame them for thinking that after reading this book.

1.0 out of 5 stars There's a limit, November 6, 2011

I understand "blue" humor to get through tough days at work. As a psychiatric case worker, some days it keeps you from quiting on the spot or helps bonds a team together. But those comments are only meant for those moments...to document them is a disservice because it gives the impression that people who use this coping method are crass and uncaring, when it's usually far from the truth. I read this book, even chuckled at a few "been there, done that too" moments but these stories should be left in those moments for those people who needed it, not shared with people who may not quite understand the fine line between coping and being insensitive.

1.0 out of 5 stars I didn't think it could be that bad..., November 6, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
So, the 1 start reviews got me thinking - "Well, it can't be that bad."

Just under 1,000 locations, so I start reading. Doesn't seem that bad, talks about zany characters.

"Add to that the fact these grown men have the mentality of college frat brothers and you have some of the funniest stories that have ever happened." Uh oh.

Next sentence - "One cop described it as going to high school with legal guns." /sigh, OK, I am in trouble.

The story about the homeless man's body is really offensive. Not only do one group of cops dump the body in another precinct's area, but those cops dump it back. These are the people who are protecting us? Not only would Internal Affairs like to know about this, but to think that officers of the law would have so little respect for the dead man and his family is just sickening. What if it was the brother/son of another officer? Would they have acted the same way?

I just can't believe this is normal behavior for cops.

I am glad the author is an ex-cop now.

Finally, the real cardinal sin of the book. Most of this isn't funny.

1.0 out of 5 stars I hope this is fiction..., November 6, 2011

Sending a female officer to search a transsexual who still retains male body parts, without warning her, as a joke? Suppose she'd been raped? (Not that transsexual individuals are more likely to rape than the average individual, but an arresed person *is* more likely.) If the individual identifies as female, a female officer to perform the search is appropriate- but the officer should've been informed and not alone.

Hauling a body across into another district to avoid processing it? Sick.

There are some funny stories in here, but many are just sick.

And here's a hint: if the joke centers on the guy's Chinese accent, it isn't funny.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't think I could like cops any less than I did...., November 6, 2011

There is not a single funny story in this "book," and I use the term loosely. The fact that the stories are not funny isn't the worst of it. Judging by this, our police forces consist of a bunch of immoral idiots. Not only does this sound (and look) like it was written by a 6 year old, but the behavior described is unprofessional and disgusting.
