Editorial Reviews

It has been 50 years since Barbra Streisand portrayed Fanny Brice in the 1964 Broadway stage production of Funny Girl, and 46 years since she reprised her critically acclaimed role for the 1968 feature film.

The Gold-certified Funny Girl: Original Broadway Cast Recording is now packaged in a 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition boxed set with a digitally remastered CD and vinyl LP, as well as a 48-page book featuring exclusive photos from the production and a new essay by Jay Landers.

With music by Jule Styne and lyrics by Bob Merrill, Funny Girl was produced by Ray Stark, directed by Garson Kanin, and choreographed by Carol Haney under the supervision of Jerome Robbins. In addition to Streisand, the show's original cast included Sydney Chaplin, Kay Medford, Danny Meehan, Jean Stapleton, and Lainie Kazan, who also served as Streisand's understudy. The production earned rave reviews and eight Tony® Award nominations, in every major category.

3.0 out of 5 stars OVER PRICED May 1, 2014
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
A vinyl reissue, a CD and a meh photo book with a laudatory essay says to me that this should be about half the price that's been asked. This is strictly for Steisand's most ardent fans.

I already had the 2 previous CD versions as well as the original vinyl fold-out LP when I bought this. The print quality of the production photos of the reproduced original vinyl album is very poor indeed. The CD remastering reproduces the sound of the original LP which was more spacious than the previous CD versions. However, I'm sure that once this anniversary is over, Capitol/EMI will release the latest remastering on CD as well. So no need to buy this overpriced monstrosity of an anniversariy CD/LP package, especially at this price.

I have been a loyal fan for decades, but this is where I stop buying Streisand's products.

It is unfortunate that the 50th anniversary of this landmark original Broadway cast recording is marred by transparent, price-gouging tactics. To charge over $100 for a vinyl record, a CD without any previously unreleased tracks, and a "48 page" pamphlet is just a textbook example of pure avarice. Greed is clearly no longer a mere Streisand-associated vice, but a shameless, recurring marketing tool.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not In a Million Years May 31, 2014
Format:Audio CD
I always loved this score but I will stay away from this reissue like the PLAGUE. How dare Barbara Streisand charge over $100 for a CD and a vinyl disc of music that has been out for five decades already! So it's been "repackaged?" So what! And yet ANOTHER kiss-ass tribute from Jay Landers? Enough already! The woman is a thief!

As an avid Streisand fan and one that has paid thousands of dollars to see her in concert over the years, I find this price to be absolutely an insult to all of her fans. I could somehow justify this if new material previously unreleased was included but this is nothing but the same old stuff... Read More

I Love Barbra, but why is this $127.00? you get a $10 remastered disk, a vinyl copy another $10 item that i will never play and a commemorative book another $10 item, itsBarbra so add another $5 per item so $45, $50... maybe its Barbra. But $127.00 ??? what else do I get for the other $77?

Total Ripoff
I agree- who wants a vinyl record with no equipment to buy it? Her test pricing starting with that farewell concert years ago is now at its zenith of rip off pricing for a at most $20 item is why so many fans hate what she has become. GREEDY!

outrageous price
Was seriously considering adding this to my collection but ..... yes it is a rip off - nothing new - and who is making the money here - gonna skip this one
