A new way to groove,

The first time I head to song, I wasn't sure if I liked it. Reminds me of the previous album Stand Up, where I didn't immediately care for any of the songs, but oh how they grew on me. I now am listening to this somg at least once a day, musicianship from DMB has been and always will be strong, although we are now short Leroi, God rest his soul. Rumor has it there will be some Leroi sax work on the album, and Tim Reynolds officially on the album as well. DMB has changed some, but the spirit and soul of their music remains. Truly an outstand band, and my favorite one too! June 2nd will be a great day when the world can hear the rest of this album.

Missing Leroi, great cover art,

I have been listening to Dave Matthews Band since the bootlegs started circling through college back in the early 90's. When I started listening back then I was hooked from the first song I heard, nothing compared to what I heard at the time. And you know that what your listening to is "amazing" and makes you follow them without really challenging yourself as to why you are doing so. This new album I think will disappoint some, myself included because we are missing "one of the family." I listened to this new song, and liked it but as the previous reviewer stated Leroi is missing and you can tell. If you think that DMB should have remained a Jam band of the 90's I feel sorry for you. DMB is one of those bands like the Greatful Dead that you live and grow with through the good and the bad. I do not think this is bad, I just think it is different and we as a family of listeners have to remember we are still reeling from our loss and will need to adjust accordingly.

The spirit remains but not quite the same,

Funny how it is so clear that Leroi is missing. Has a more "rock" feel now that he's gone. Dave's lyrics have a bittersweet reflective quality. This song reminds me of Pig, but lacking in the "wonder of it all" that Pig had, but more the "how life hangs so loosely around us - and how it could just be vacuumed away." To lifelong Dave fans, it certainly is a further departure from what got all of us hooked in the early 90s and you may not care for DMB anymore, but I have to admit the spirit remains. Those of us longing for a rebirth of the Best of What's Arounds or the Lie in Our Graves, this new DMB might never find that place again. Funny since there's no one like Leroi.

Love the lyrics,

I haven't purchased a song in so long and I saw this video on Hulu and had to buy the mp3. The tune is catchy too. I can't wait to figure out the piano cover to this song. A good project for tonight.

Tha Jams Are Back,

There is no doubt that there have been so many artists that have made lackluster songs and albums this past year. Nevertheless, there are some of them that feel like a breath of fresh air all over again. that is the case with the Dave Matthews Band, and their latest single Funny The Way It Is. The song is very upbeat, and delivers their classic jamming style to a whole new era of fans. The song is very upbeat, and true to Dave Matthews and company alike. The song is honestly much more enjoyable than a lot of the lackluster songs that honestly have felt like you've listened to paperweights. I hope that their Big Whiskey album can really deliver just as good as this song surprised me.Song: B

I was very disappointed in this single. If this is a strong track from the new album, I'm very concerned about the other songs. Wanted to love this song but just don't- DMB has seen better days and songs.

May not be our #1 choice for the first Big Whiskey single, but worthy nonetheless,

This song reminds me of Everyday; it sounds Ballard-esque and, at times, over-produced for DMB: short, un-obscure lyrics and very catchy. But at the same time parts also reminds me of Before These Crowded Streets with a highly addictive, completely-obvious-its-Carter back beat and Boyd's solo. Yes, one big thing is missing and it's Leroi's contagious sax. But we mustn't dwell...the band has painstakingly moved on and in doing so one can only hope they're truly inspired by Leroi's life and work. While this one song may not be the best example of that, I'm very confident Big Whiskey will be...it reportedly opens with a sax solo from Leroi. How appropriate and respectful of DMB.And let's be honest...after 4 years I'm just happy to have new music from DMB! & You can bet they're going to absolutely shred this song live! |
