Book Description

July 7, 2003
Stevie was a young woman who took life very seriously indeed: wouldn't drink coffee if it came from a chain, would never buy a card on Valentine's day. Why would she, of all people, be sent to spend a week with a film star? Why would she, of all people, fall in love with him? Why would she, of all people, get involved in the fame game? Why would she, of all people, send him a Valentine? A Valentine that blows it all apart.

Editorial Reviews

Review

'Funny Valentine gently subverts the outworn conventions of the chick-lit genre ... a warmly observed, big-hearted rom-com with some real humour and a page-turning plot.' -- Observer 'Absorbing ... Stevie is an engaging Everywoman for the twenties/thirties generation ...there is a humanity in her take on relationships that ensures that FUNNY VALENTINE will be as popular as the rest of her oeuvre.' -- Stephanie Merritt, Observer 'She is the queen of witty one-liners' -- Guardian 'Terrific. Jenkins has hit on a winning formula ... mixing the intriguing world of celebrity with a good old-fashioned opposites attract romance. She's adept at creating endearing and comic characters, and spinning them into an entertaining yarn ... will hold you captive until the last page. A successful follow-up to Jenkins' debut best-seller Honeymoon, and fans will recognise the witty one-liners and fast-paced plot.' -- Kerrie Thackeray, Daily Express 'She is hip. She is hot. Above all, she is realistic about love, and highly original ... her work is sharp, funny and grown-up; her characters are three-dimensional' -- Weekend Australian 'A very funny, witty novel.' -- Herald Express, Devon 'Plenty of drama ... Perfect for a long train journey.' -- Out 'A humorous look at the nature of fame.' -- Reading Evening Post 'Funny and fast-paced.' -- Bournemouth Daily Echo

4.0 out of 5 stars quirky, funky... light enough to read before bed, but deep enough that you care about it..., June 2, 2008

This review is from: Funny Valentine (Paperback)
at first I didn't like the book/didn't get into it. but then I got attached to the main character and had to see what happened. about half way through (or before?) it was hard to put down. I would say this book/the characters are quirky, funky... its sort of like Marian Keyes- with maybe an edgier feel? where the book has enough depth to not be fluff but is light enough that its great to read before bed and doesn't pull you down- its good relief and entertainment.
