My daughter got this toy for her birthday. It takes 2 C batteries which were not included, this was a bit of a setback. Once we got the batteries, we attached the bubble solution and went outside on a nice breezy day and had a ton of fun. For about a half hour until we were out of bubble solution. On amazon it comes with an extra it looks like, but we only had the one tank. I went looking for refills and couldn't find any - you need Gazillion GOLD bubbles by the way because you are trying to make big bubbles, regular bubble stuff will not work. I could not find a refill anywhere - lots of places sold the bubblator, none sold refills. Grrr.
So I did some research and expermenting and came up with this replacement. Buy a big container of regular bubblestuff (I got a 100oz Miracle Bubbles at Toys R Us for [...]) and a 4oz bottle of Glycerin (available in the soap / skin care section of drugs stores - but not all of them (Walgreens did not have it, I found mine in CVS, little plain brown bottle) [...]. Dump the entire bottle of glycerin into the Miracle Bubbles. Mix gently (don't shake vigourously). Do this a day or two in advance of using for best results (the glycerin needs to age a little) - however I did use it right away and did pretty well. Voila - 100oz of replacement bubbles for [...] rather than one tiny little bottle. Enjoy!

My kids love this gun, it blows the biggest bubbles Ive ever seen, and lots of them. We took this to the park and every kid there loved catching bubbles, even the older ones..I mean like 12/13 years old. Its easy for me to use, sometimes the wind wasnt strong enough so I just blew them out myself, no problem. The only negatives I have is that the gun is too big for a small child like a 3 year old. My daughter cant push the trigger hard enough to blow on her own and she cant blow hard enough to get bubbles. My five year old can blow and push the trigger by himself but he always spills all of the bubble solution onto the ground because he forgets not to tip the gun. I found it easier to just blow the bubbles and let them catch them. If you want them to play with this independently you may be disappointed, but if youre willing to join in or have an older child to help, it really is a cool toy and very fun. I wish they had this when I was little.
