5.0 out of 5 stars Funtown is my Favorite!
This CD should be called "Happiness Tickles" because it tickled me in all of the right places with pure glee. These songs make me want to bake delicious, fluffy, pink-frosted cakes with rainbow dots on top. I loved every track and look forward to hearing more from The Beards.

3.0 out of 5 stars The Muffs or The Beards?
Now as a dedicated Muffs fan, i feel slightly let down by this 'lacklustre' performance by The Beards.

Essentialy where the Beards fail is where the Muffs triumph. Now in my previous attempt at reviewing a Muffs album, I gave it a worthable 3 and i said to myself I would try and get off from sitting on the fence.....but i find it rather too comfortable which...

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm in Heaven. Pop Bliss!!!, April 26, 2002
This review is from: Funtown (Audio CD)
If you like the Muffs, you will love the Beards. The Beards are Kim Shattuck from pop supergroup the Muffs and Lisa Marr and Sherri Solinger from Buck. I just can't stop listening to this cd. The cd flows from one punk-pop gem to the next and when you are done, you just have to listen again. The cd also doubles as a cd-rom that you can plop in your computer and see videos for all 11 songs. The highlight of the cd has to be the monkeeesque "sidewalks" that would even make Davey Jones blush. Thank you Beards.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soooooooo incredible!, April 14, 2003

Ladies from The Muffs and Tiger Trap combine to make this beautiful pop collection of lost-love songs and punky heartache. Produced by the band and Redd Kross' Jeff McDonald, the tunes are both remarkably tender("Sidewalks", "t.s. eliot")and ballsy("Make it in America", "Big Dumb World"). A lot of my friends still can't get used to Kim Shattuck's gloriously doofy presence and gravelly voice, but this is a nice introduction to her as she's not front-and-center at all times(as with The Muffs). I hope some Muffs fans are born with the album, it would be nice to see. A+

My indie pop dream is realized in this CD...it just doesn't get any better. The combo of Kim & Lisa's amazing song crafting abilities is beyond words. If you love music you can dance around your house to, this is it!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Beards Bring it!, May 23, 2002
This review is from: Funtown (Audio CD)
No, it isn't the Muffs, despite the presence of a couple of Kimmie's trademark Snarling Howlers, and it isn't supposed to be either. What really makes these girls special is when the turn up the bubblegum quotient. This is pure, sugar coated ear candy, a perfect soundtrack for the coming summer. These girls sound so tight, it's as if they have been playing together forever, and their ability to craft jangly pop songs is formidable indeed. No mean feat. These girls have the goods; the kind of band that is bound to deliver one pure pop masterpiece after another. This boy's in love with the Beards!

4.0 out of 5 stars It ain't the Muffs, but..., May 18, 2002
This review is from: Funtown (Audio CD)
But for a Kim Shattuck fix, it will have to do. It's just what you'd expect--sixties girl-group inflenced punk pop, and it's not too bad. Not the Muffs album I'm longing for, but whatcha gonna do?

Rawkin pop/punk, this enhanced disc also includes 11 videos to accompany each song, viewable on your personal computer. Get it now! Shattuck absolutely rocks on guitar and her voice is wickedly distinctive. Marr's slight Canadian accent makes every vowel that comes out of her mouth more of a pleasure to listen to. If beards were truly like these ladies it would be enough to make any guy wish he were a mo.

The best CD of the year... if you love THE MUFFS, CUB and BUCK, don't delay!! The songs are all great and lead vocals alternate between Kim and Lisa... what more could we ask for? Oh yeah, videos; they're here to - 11 of 'em., one for each song. Each one cool in its own way, I keep a copy in my computer at all times for a BEARDS fix anytime!! GET THIS CD!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars The Muffs or The Beards?, March 11, 2005
This review is from: Funtown (Audio CD)
Now as a dedicated Muffs fan, i feel slightly let down by this 'lacklustre' performance by The Beards.

Essentialy where the Beards fail is where the Muffs triumph. Now in my previous attempt at reviewing a Muffs album, I gave it a worthable 3 and i said to myself I would try and get off from sitting on the fence.....but i find it rather too comfortable which leaves me no option but to give this record the 3 star treatment.

It has one or two high points with the accordion and banjo solo that lasts for an impressive 3 minutes. But perhaps the lowest point has to be the bonus track at the end of the LP...after a good 40 minute album, the last thing you want to hear is an alarm clock sound going off. Although that may have been my alarm clock, as i fell asleep listening to the album with the timer on...hmm

Overall, the jury is out yet again...and this trial will resume on monday.

John kilt

p.s. Rodney Dubbing says the record is merely 'bland, weak....but excellent (3/5)'
