5.0 out of 5 stars Questa e' la mia vita... anch'io, Liga, anch'io, August 10, 2005
By
This review is from: Fuori Come Va? (Audio CD)
I was living in Rome during the spring of 2002. Luciano Ligabue was all over the media. He had directed a film (Da Zero A Dieci) and the song "Questa E' La Mia Vita" was its theme. Thus, any time that a promo came on for the film you would hear the song. At the time Liga's proliferation of Italian media was total and "Questa E' La Mia Vita" became the theme song of my stay in Italy. Now it's become a song about my life as well because it was so central to my Italian experience. A rocking, somewhat bittersweet song, it has a quality of reminiscence that will make you want to listen to it repeatedly. He has actually captured through one song the perfect soundtrack for happily thinking back on your life. As for the rest of the album, it's excellent. "Tutti Vogliono Viaggiare In Prima" is another great track. For fans of Liga this is a must, and it's also good starting point for those who want to check him out for the first time.

4.0 out of 5 stars Classic ligabue style, August 24, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Fuori Come Va ? (Audio CD)
Ligabue's latest release has several short comings that caused it to lose the fifth star in my book. While vacationing in italy i found myself channel surfing one day and i saw a live ligabue concert on rai due. I immediately fell in love with the bands sound and character, as well as zanny yet powerful songs. However many of the songs rely heavily on slang and play on words, which makes understanding very difficult for the average american listener. Also many of the best songs are explained much more in depth by their music video, and as i have yet to see an italian song on MTV...However ligabue is good enough that their lyrics do not need to be understood, the music can just carry you away.

The first two songs on the album, Sono Nato Per Me and Fuori Come Va, are as good as anything Ligabue's ever done, classic rock with a great beat and melody, and the sound quality is a lot better than on some of Ligabue's earlier albums. The quality of songs slips afterward, however, and Ligabue just seems tired, both his voice, with a lot of sliding off at the end of notes, and his songwriting, in which he seems to be repeating himself. Il Campo delle Lucciole, in particular, really sounds like a second rate version of Balliamo Sul Mondo from his first album.

If you are already a Ligabue fan, you will find this album enjoyable, but disappointing. If you are new to this classic Italian rocker, you'd be better off trying either Ligabue, his first album, or Buon Cumpleanno Elvis first, since both are superior efforts. Still, this is better than most American rock, and the first two songs alone make it worth a listen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Benissimo!, January 3, 2007
This review is from: Fuori Come Va? (Audio CD)
I was introduced to Ligabue by a friend in Italy. Luciano Ligabue isn't known well here, but that is only because of the language barrier. Too often we think of Italian music as the soundtracks to movies we all know and love, and of course Bocelli. But there are amazing artists like Ligabue that are worth looking into. Ligabue has a gritty delivery and his music is solid rock and roll, not pop. If you understand the lyrics, you'll like him even more. I find a lot of the better Italian contemporary musicians write with a social consciousness and quite poetically. Luciano Ligabue is no exception. This is only one of the Ligabue CDs I am fortunate to own. Check them all out, even if you don't understand a word. And it might inspire you to try and learn.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ligabue: World-class rock musician, seriously, October 18, 2002

This is LL's latest ("Fuori come va?" = How's it out there?). He does not disappoint here. Rather, he confirms his condition of a top-notch rocker, with a stupendous guitar work form his bandmates Mel Previte & Fede Poggipollini in every song. "Nato per me" is pure rock in the best Ligabue's style. "Tutti vogliono viaggare in prima"(Everybody wants to travel in first-class) opens with an anguishing, high-pitched guitar in the background as the song unfolds. "Ti sento", "Tu che conosci il cielo" and "voglio volere" are beautiful ballads. This latter song starts with piano and struck me when Ligabue played it live in Florence on September 10, 2002. However, it seems the song gets lost at the very end.
Again, a must for those who love rock 'n' roll. It isn't the best of Ligabue's album but should be ranked among his top works, along with Buon Compleanno Elvis, and Su e giu da un palco
