Furby is back and speaking more than Furbish!,

We all remember the original Furby craze - little electronic "friends" that spoke in Furbish. Well, they are back but with some new features and the ability to speak English eventually. Right out of the box the little guy will speak mostly in a Furbish/English mix. Fortunatley it understands spoken English so you can ask it to do things like tell a joke, sing a song, or tell a story. This Furby has great facial expressions which give the owner a clue as to what it is "feeling". Gone is the light sensor of the old Furby (not sure what that was used for anyway). He's a bit larger than the original, but also much more animal-like in it's behavior. More natural. If you hold it close you will believe the toy is watching you.
The more you interact with the toy, the more English words it speaks. A great new feature is the ability to tell Furby to go to sleep. And you can now turn it off with a power switch located between it's feet. The toy is sturdy and the battery life seems to be pretty good. Expect children about 7 on up (depending on child), will love Furby. Also gadget and robot enthusiasts will be fascinted.

New Furby. Improved?,

I purchased two Furbys (Furbies?) this holiday season. One each for my 5yr old nephew and 3yr old niece. Both are familiar with the original Furby, so they knew right away how to use the new models. Even ditching the spoon in favor of feeding via jamming a finger in Furby's mouth.
First off, the toy seems durable enough. I couldn't believe the manhandling I had to give each one just to replace the batteries. I thought for sure I'd snap the ears off trying to both push down the spring loaded battery cover while getting it screwed shut. Next, one of the toys worked great right out of the box. The other seemed like it had a screw loose somewhere. It would interact somewhat, but no matter what it did, it would finish by saying something in "furbish" (that I never looked up) and then start dancing until you made it stop by pressing the tummy button. I finally just reset* both of them and both are now working perfectly. I'm only giving 4 stars because, for all the new technology that supposedly went into this new Furby, I'm surprised at how limited it is. Only a handful of commands to give it, I've only heard it tell two jokes and it only seems to play one game. I expected MUCH more. But, the kids don't seem to mind and us adults like the 'off' button. *(Turn Furby off and turn upside down. Press and hold the mouth button and switch to 'on'. Let go of the mouth button and Furby should say "Good morning". The Furby is now reset and has "forgotten" most of it's English.)

Compared to the old Furby and Shelby, this toy is very limited. Sings only one song, tells only one story, plays only one game. Bigger and more cuddly than the old models, it seems to be geared for the very young child only. The humor of the old ones entertained the adults, too, but this one does very little in that regard. I hope I can find the "Easter Eggs" (hidden tricks) in this one as I did in the old models.
I must say, though, that after a couple weeks I became fond of this guy and appreciate him more now. And he definitely makes a better choice for kids than the older models because he is not rude at all.

I thought the original Furby was cute when I first got it, but it got boring fairly quickly. It doesn't do anything unless it's ordered to (and I find the fact that you have to order them to do things rather than ask kindly not very great), and it only has a maximum of five responses, usually less. The original Furby had hundreds of phrases! The new Furby is not ugreaded except for how it moves. I think that Hasbro must have put all of their money for the Furby into the voice recognition and the emoto-tronics, and not put much into the responses and had to take out the light sensor. Something like that. Also, I think that the fact that they can only understand about six phrases makes them seem less realistic than when they couldn't understand any at all. The original one seemed more lively. Oh, another thing I forgot to mention, the new Furby's voice is very flat most of the time, especially compared to the original.
I admit that it was fun for the first week or so, but after that I really haven't turned the furby on at all since then, except to try to get my Furby to talk to my friend's Furby, but somehow, one of our Furbys runs out of battery every time we try... Okay, basically I don't recommend the new Furby. If you want a ton of huggable fun that isn't as much trouble as a real pet, I'd recommend either one of the original Furbys or Furby Babies. You could try one of the new Furby Babies, too I guess, but I don't know what they're like because I don't have one. They don't have voice recognition, though, so maybe they are more spontaneous than the big Furbys.

He's not the cute little fuzzball that he used to be. Hard to trigger some of the switches. Prefer the older model.

I'm a 21 year old girl from Malaysia (it's a south-east Asian country) who has been curious about furby for a long time. I've heard of the hype back in the late 90's but furby was unheard of in my city (probably they had some in the capital state of Malaysia) so I couldn't buy a furby anywhere.
So about a couple of months ago while watching Nickelodeon, I saw a fuby ad and found it cute. It also stated that I could also find it in a mall that's available in my city. Until Xmas eve, while doing last minute xmas shopping, I checked out the furby and I fell in love with it at the first sight! It's sooooooo cute, and the voice is soooo cute too! What's cool is that they can show different emotions. But it's too darn expensive. My NZ online friend asked me if it's a modified version so it could understand our English accent like in New Zealand. I said no, it's imported from the US and he said it won't understand my English accent. Until I expressed my wish to have the furby on xmas day, my friend gave me half of the money and mom gave me half (even tho she disapproved) so I could buy it as xmas present for myself. The moment I took it out of the box, I was giggling because of the cuteness. After resetting it, I love the way he talks furbish. The more I talk to him, the more English he learns. I read some reviews and I don't get it how some people can say the furby wouldn't talk to them back or don't understand them because even myself and my mom with Malaysian English accent can talk to it and it responded perfectly. The only con is that he keeps repeating stuff... it would be so much better if it can tell a few stories, more knock-knock jokes (mine can tell 5 now I think), play more games instead of just red-light green-light game and do more activities. However, you can't ignore the fact that it's so cute :) The blinking/expressions, movement of ears and beak are realistic. Even my mom who was against me buying it at first fell in love with it and started playing with it for fun and said I should have bought it way earlier.

This was a MUST HAVE item on my 4 yo daughter's wish list. I was skeptical about this thing, but she loves it!! I think it's an educational toy because you must learn how to interact with Furby...how to talk to it, how to ask it questions, and most importantly, how to listen!! Furby gradually learns to incorporate more English into it's language. Also, you can learn to speak "Furbish" in order to communicate with Furby. My daughter has also been inadvertently "rough" with Furby. For example dropping it, constantly sticking her finger in it's mouth to "feed" it, pulling it's ears, and investigating it's feet. Through all that, Furby is still Alive and Kickin'!!

The first time i saw the Furby online i was hooked...i was like i got to have this toy. CUT TO: 2 mins later i was in the checkout line buying this toy and i took it home BAM! The toy blew my mind. The only thing is that i brought this toy at walmart for $19.98 and here on amazon it is $34.99 which, when you think about it...this is something of a big diffrence in price when you factor in the shipping and handling. anywho buy this toy if you are a fan of toys.
