3.0 out of 5 stars Half Classic Rob Dougan, Half Garbage
As an avid fan of Rob Dougan, this album was a long time coming. I was a little disappointed though. His classic tracks are as fabulous as ever ('Clubbed to Death,' 'Furious Angels'). 'I'm Not Driving Anymore' (originally from the 'Driven' Soundtrack) is of the same orchestral/heavy beat quality. These three tracks together are so brilliant they give me goose bumps...

And also on the same day we get the Matrix Reloaded OST featuring Rob Dougan - "Furious Angels" (Instrumental) and a new track Rob Dougan - "Chateau" the track list for the US exclusive second disc is:
1) Will you follow me? (same track as the album) 4'31
2) Furious angels (Instrumental) 6'01
3) Left me for dead (Instrumental) 4'41
4) I'm not driving anymore (Instrumental) 4'32
5) Clubbed to death (Kurayamino variation) 7'26
6) There's only me (Instrumental) 5'36
7) Instrumental 4'28 (same track as the album)
8) Nothing at all (Instrumental) 5'52
9) Born yesterday (Instrumental) 7'31
10) Speed me towards death (Instrumental) 4'31
11) Drinking song (same track as the album) 3'58
12) One and the same (Instrumental - new mix)5'44

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliance of Passion, August 4, 2002

This is quite possibly the greatest album I have ever owned. Combining driving techno/club/orchestral fusion musical style with the most passionate presentation of the grittiest and sublimely honest lyrics, this album is a true eye openner to the brilliance crouching beneath the bland patina of pop culture.

You've probably heard Dougan's Clubbed To Death on the Matrix sountrack, and it is indicative of the technical club/dance brilliance that he is capable of delivering. The real surprise/shock comes when you hear Furious Angels (my absolute favorite song, ever, and in a way, personal anthem). The lyrics, sense and sheer power of FA reduce me to dust, elevate me to sainthood and render me raw.

While the rest of the songs on this release do not fully live up to the promise of Furious Angels, this is more a statement of how immaculate that single track is, rather than a criticism of the remaining works. Each offering is better than 95% of anything else out there, and seeing as they're all on the same platter, this is hopefully an omen of impending greatness from Dougan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rob Dougan is a god, June 27, 2005
This review is from: Furious Angels (Audio CD)
This man makes some of the most BEAUTIFUL and heart-wrenching music that I've ever heard. It's been a long time since I've heard this genre sounding so good.
(...)
Try it, there's no way nobody can hate Rob's stuff. If you like this, try Juno Reactor.

These three tracks together are so brilliant they give me goose bumps everytime I hear them. 'There's Only Me', 'Nothing at All' and 'Born Yesterday' are still in the right spirit. But the rest of the album disappoints. It includes a few uninspired movie-score sounding instrumentals ('Will You Follow Me,' 'Instrumental') and one incredibly horrible wannabe U2/Las Vegas showtune 'One and the Same.' Half the album is incredible; the other seems like it was written quickly and thrown in to round out the number of tracks. The album is worth it for the incredible parts alone; just try to ignore the rest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Rob Dougan is Amazing, November 28, 2002

Rob Dougan has been amazing me for about three years now, ever since I first heard the Clubbed to Death single from the Matrix movie and soundtrack. Unfortunately, I couldn't find hardly anything about this "Rob D" on the net or anywhere else for that matter, and I was really discouraged. Finally I stumbled into Cheeky Records that said that Rob Dougan was going to release a full length album in 2000. I was really excited, because by that time I had heard the Furious Angels single, which blew me away as much as Clubbed to Death had. Unforunately, Cheeky went bankrupt and Rob Dougan's CD was delayed until further notice. Thankfully BMI ended up buying Cheeky out and have finally put Rob out on a full-length CD, which I just got a couple days ago.

I'm blown away. I'm blown to pieces by Rob's CD. It has to be one of the most worthwhile purchases I've made in the past couple of months. An album with simply Furious Angels, Clubbed to Death, and I'm Not Driving Anymore on it is worth a buy, let alone one that offers so much more. I actually haven't listened to the older classics much on the CD, simply because I want to hear the new stuff. If you're open about it, the new stuff is absolutely brilliant. I will admit that you have to be in the right mood to listen to this album, the mellow mood of it isn't necessarily exactly similar to the Clubbed to Death beat, some songs are just simply something you would hear out of a film score. This is far from bad, in fact, it's amazing to see that a man whose parents owned three records can compose and arrange such a magnificent musical epic, which is that of Furious Angels. Listen with your ears open, this isn't electronic, and its not necessarily classical. It's not electronic classical, it's simply Rob with a whole bunch of amazing songs packed into a beautifully designed CD.

Buy this if you like Dougan in the least, the classics are worth it and you will probably end up loving the new pieces as well, as long as you listen with an open ear and heart.

5.0 out of 5 stars AAAAARRRRGH! How can he only have one album?, November 20, 2011

I guess the negative reviews are from people who like the remix work he did in London and think that is the only thing he should do.

To me all these tracks are brilliant. True, they aren't all the same, and that's why I want to grab him and shake him until the rest of each of those genres falls out of him. Brilliant work and such a shame that there is so little of it. If you don't have this you really should. No, really.

5.0 out of 5 stars How did I jusf find this!!! INCREDIBLE, February 7, 2009

Rob Dougan?
Why was I not even familiar with the name. I know that there are many artists out there in today's exploding internet/world arena who I am unaware of either fortunately or unfortunately. However, when I run across an album that transcends so many genres, is immediately accesible, and has extrodinary lyrics, production, style, and arranging, I am left scratching my head.
What is Rob Dougan's up too lately?

If this is a one album wonder, let it remain that but it is a shame!!

First of all heads up to all Peter Gabriel, Sarah Brightman, Snow Patrol, Seal, etc fans. THIS IS A MUST OWN. I have not heard anything in the last 5 years that has lept off of the disc into my musical soul. No repeated listens needed here for it to grow on you. I choose not to wordsmith a song by song review because this album gives the listener ample room to create their own mind-vid and picture/soundscapes.

Be Assured! You will not be disappointed.
Get it NOW!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Really Good CD, May 5, 2003
This review is from: Furious Angels (Audio CD)
This by far the best mix of strings and other elemenets of classical music produced in the most modern way I've ever heard. The matrix soundtrack is great, but this is way better. This is worth the money for an import. This is the closest I've ever seen techno music that can also evoke emotions in a way similar to classical music. A damn good CD.
