Customer Reviews

I like Furman, they seem to make good stuff.
Jason
I have ]no idea about the actual specs for surge protection, and am only using these because I also use power conditioners as well.
Mike Tarrani
It is very well made and has a 15 foot heavy duty cord.

Furman is well known for the power conditioning circuitry. Just be sure you know this is a surge protector only. This won't help with flakey power at clubs. If you just want a power strip, though, this is top notch. I highly recommend.

I'm a part time working musician and I never play a job without using a Furman product. That being said I believe most of my older Furman products, including a nice rack mounted unit, were made in the USA. This last power strip I purchased says it's engineered in the USA and built in China. My concern with electrical items like these coming from outside the USA is the high probability of them being counterfeit and hence dangerous to use. I haven't had any failures or other issues so I'm going to give this a high rating, but Furman, I've got my eye on you.

I have owned several Furman PL series power conditioner products, and can attest to their being an absolute necessity in the studio, and onstage. Though the Furman SS-6B does NOT offer "Standard Level Power Conditioning" (and should be removed from the product description), it does provide the best EMI/RFI noise attenuation of any power strip I've used, and it's built like a tank. Don't believe the hype - or waste your money - on lesser "noise filtering" plastic power strips. The Furman SS-6B is a small investment that's worth every cent.

Shred a credit card statement, the DSL drops. The cordless phone rings, the DSL drops. Turn on a lamp (with CFL bulbs), the DSL drops.

After trying all the usual fixes (plug the DSL gateway into a separate circuit with its own surge suppressor power strip, move it farther away from the cordless phone, coil up the slack in the DSL modem cable) it became clear we needed something even stronger. If this Furman power strip can filter out power line noise for DJs and musicians, could it do the same for computer gear?

Yes. I even thrash-tested it by rapidly flipping the reverse switch on the document shredder to bombard the room with EMI mini-bursts, calling my home phone from my iPhone and flickering the lights on and off. The line stayed up, and has done so since I replaced the wimpy power strip with this one. The faster your DSL line, the more you need this kind of power protection. It won't fix problems on the DSL line itself, but it will deliver clean noise-free power to your DSL modem or gateway, and many times, that's all you need.

It's a nice surge protector....I wish it were not Chinese made. RRRrrrr.
Please note that this is not a "power conditioner".

It does what it's supposed to do: protect our equipment from power surges. Our lead guitarist has his pedals plugged into it, and the 15' cord is the perfect length.

I like that this power strip is made with metal, replaceable electrical parts, lights up, and has some surge protection. I have yet to see how it performs in the long run but, I can see one problem with the design that could be better. The power switch, which also acts as the circuit breaker, is too easily switched off. All it would take is a cord coming in contact with the exposed switch to turn it off accidentally. If I'm powered up with computer, video, or audio equipment, especially in a remote or temporary set up, it could be disastrous if the power was shut off unexpectantly. The power switch could be protected in some way or it could be one made to take more effort to switch it off.

I've bought several of these over the last few years. The power strips are used onstage for live sound use, I like them because of the long power cord. I give these guys a rather rough treatment, they are exposed to humidity, being trampled on by musicians, etc.. One of these stopped working after someone accidentally dropped a drink on it, very bad, luckily I stopped working and no damage was caused to equipment. Another one stopped working after many hours of subwoofer vibrations a few screws sustaining the outlets in place came loose. Someone tried to plug a keyboard in anyway and damaged the strip, which resulted in a few sparks, therefore I suggest checking the tightness on the screws every once in awhile. On this last purchase, I bought two units. One of them worked perfectly, the other wouldn't switch on, the button was broken. I decided to open up strip and was able to fix the problem in less than 2 minutes. Overall the durability of these strips are pretty good, I can't comment on home use, but using them on the road they've lasted me up to 2 years, well worth the investment.
