5.0 out of 5 stars Score another one for Nuno
Nuno never ceases to amaze me. Furnished souls for rent takes off where Mourning Widows left. Good hard rock with a good mesure of funk, it doesnt get any better than this. If you enjoyed the first Widows CD make sure to pick this one up. "No Rerets" is one of the highlits of the CD, great song. Also "The Swing" just refuses to get out of my head...

3.0 out of 5 stars dosent quite live up to the first album
I was really disapointed when I purchased the first mourning widows album. Its scaled down funkyness and drum sound didnt grab me at all and the songs seemed nowhere near the instant likeability of 'schizophonic'. As time wore on I really began to hear the melodies and get into it until, it is now one of my favorite albums. So, with that in mind, I rushed to get...

5.0 out of 5 stars All Hail Nuno, October 20, 2000

Nuno does it again. Outstanding songs, great melodies and unbelievable guitar playing, Nuno and Mourning Widows put out another incredible album. It doesn't quite top his previous relaese (the self titled Mourning Widows), the songs are a little less experimental, but the guitar playing and sound quality are even better. Stand out tracks are "Furnished Souls For Rent", "Upsidedownside", "Monkey Paw" and "Space". I would consiedr Nuno one of the best artists of our time. The only thing that could make me stop listening to the previous CD is this one. I can't say enough good things about this record. Everyone should own it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nuno's best work since Extreme!, June 29, 2000
If you have heard "Schizophonic" and "Mourning Widows", you have heard Nuno sing, play the drums, the bass, and duh the guitar. You probably know that he is very good at doing all of these things. Though, I think, he is even better when he plays with a real band. That's what he does on "Furnished Souls For Rent", which as a matter of fact is his eighth LP release. His new drummer Jeff Consi shines on "Furnished Souls For Rent". He is a very talented drummer, with the range of a Lars Ulrich of Mettallica, or a Tico Torres of Bon Jovi. This guy can bang them skins. The bassist of Mourning Widows plays some amazing notes, that are just downright bad. The whole album is hip, dark, and just downright groovy. Some of the highlights on this album are, "667" which is in vein with the likes of Kid Rock. "UpsideDownSide" is so awesome that it will make you start dancing. The song goes from being an average rock track, to this total energy explosion which Nuno has no problem pulling off. "Space" is great and sounds alot like the Goo Goo Dolls. "Monkey Paw" reminds me of Extreme, it's funky and melodic. "Warpaint" is an action packed track, wich boasts an excellent killer groove. The song "F@#kYou" is about greed and the power of money and how it f@#ks with your mind. "No Regrets" is about how foolish people are when they consider suicide. "The Swing" takes top honors for the best track on this record, eventhough they are all groovy. I highly reccomend this CD to fans of all kinds of music. This is classic Nuno material. 10/10. Though, it's five here at Amazon.com. Hear the Nuno if you haven't already.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best kept secret, October 29, 2001
By
Matthew Skidmore (Stourbridge, West Midlands United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
One of the best albums I have heard this year (This and SYSTEM OF A DOWN - TOXICITY). Nuno Bettencourt has outdone himself with this excellent album. Great quitar playing and excellent songs collide in a fast and eternally playable record (It hasn't been out of my CD player since I purchased it!). The only problem I have had with the CD is that it seems really quiet compared to others that I have purchased. Has the CD itself got a problem? Hasn't it been through a final mix or something? Can someone tell me why? Anyway, that minor quibble aside, this album is extremely hard to get hold of, as it is not available in the UK (as of this writing, anyway). This seems a shame as it is an excellent album, and many times better than most rock albums that have surfaced in the past year that have gone on to great success. If you haven't heard of these guys, give them a chance . .

Anyone who knows anything about good guitar driven rock should buy this album.

The musicianship and talent of Nuno's new trio is out of this world.

5.0 out of 5 stars Caught a light groove..., September 1, 2000
By
Tanner Johnson (mansfield ctr, ct United States) - See all my reviews
I have been waiting patiently for this album and in the meantime heard a friends copy and caught them in Rhode Island. Mourning Widows is a tight solid, and full sounding trio. It is NOT Nuno and 2 random guys. It is Donovan, Jeff and Nuno. There is no "flight of the wounded bumble bee" on this album. There are 3 musicians creating some serious melodic, and percussive grooves. Everyone knows that Nuno can play like a madman, and he has over and over proven himself to be one of the most skilled guitarists out there, but I hope people can put that on the back burner and realize that this effort is about a band, not just Nuno. I think even Nuno would appreciate that...The songs are tight and the album has a more unified sound than their 1st effort. I think that they have finally distinguised their "sound", and I love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nuno's Special Brand of Heavy Funk, August 19, 2000
By
While I lost track of Nuno after Schizophonic, I recently purchased copies of both Mounrning Widows CD. The self-titled first effort had all the diversity we have come to expect from Nuno - heavy, hooky, funky, pretty. When I received the second CD - Furnished Souls to Rent - I was dazzled by Nuno's return to his solid roots in "Funky Metal". I personally don't think there is anyone on the music scene today that plays a more distinctive, rocking heavy funk. So, if you're looking to seriously exercise your neck, seek out Furnished Souls to Rent.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another good CD by Mourning Widows!, June 28, 2000
By
Mourning Widows second effort is definitely worth every penny! Nuno, Donovan, and Jeff sound tighter than the first CD. This Cd is more heavier, darker, and aggressive sounding than the first CD. No slow sounding ballads here. Every song ROCKS!

5.0 out of 5 stars Furnished Souls is a great follow-up CD, June 28, 2000
By A Customer
Mourning Widows' 2nd release Furnished Souls for Rent delivers more of Nuno's guitar rock/funk repertoire. Seldom does a guitarist break through and become an accomplished singer, songwriter and producer. A definite must-have for any rock fan.
