We are very pleased with this chess set. It is very detailed, and well worth the money. We were kind of leary at first, but when it arrived, we were very impressed. Picture did not do this set justice. We keep this set displayed in our living room. Anything that we have ordered from Amazon has been well worth our money.

The board itself is really heavy. All the pieces are very detailed and are a nice weight--they do not look or feel "cheap". The sides of the board have castle mosaics "carved" into it and the gilt dragons, like the pieces, are extremely detailed and quite lovely. The actual playing board that goes on top is gold and silver with "cracking" to make it look aged/antique. This was well worth the money!

I gave this to my 16-year old nephew and he was thrilled with it. The entire family marveled at the detail and how rich and classy this board is.

I purchased this chess set for my husband and was not disappointed. The only negative comment about the board is it is extremely heavy due to the dragon heads at each corner. This is not a problem for me but should be considered when purchasing as a gift. It is beautiful and the pieces are, indeed, carved to look like medieval knights, Kings, Queens, etc. One 'side' has pieces made to look bronzy and one 'side' has pieces made to look like pewter.

The downside of the purchase is the pieces are made of something resembling plastic so break very easliy. My husband is disabled and soon after I purchased the chess set, he tripped over the leg of the table it was sitting on. The entire board and all the pieces flew into the air and landed on the carpet. Probably 80% of the pieces broke. This was very disappointing. I did not expect them to break that easily and now have to find new pieces so we can play again.

I would recommend this board as long as the purchaser considers the weight of the board and breakability of the pieces.
