This book is good for the beginner and the more experienced restorer. The pictures are excellent and helpful. Easy to read and understand.

I couldn't believe some of the reviews I had read about this book, so I bought a cheap used copy to see if what I had read was true. It was and more. The use of the term Restoration in the title is a laughable misuse of the word. Renovation maybe, but if you are looking for Furniture Restoration - find another book.

Autobody putty for filling damage, painting hardware that has worn plating - these are all fine ideas for furniture without value, but not for antiques. If you are looking to repair furniture from a thrift shop for daily use, fine get this book. But do NOT use this as a guide for restoration of antique or fine furniture. Damaged antique furniture will be more valuable as they are than repaired with some of the techniques described in this book.

Much of the content of this title is spoilt by a very heavy reliance on materials such as "car body filler", which should have almost nothing to do with restoration other than for motor vehicles! It seems to me that those involved with it's writing/publication must have shares in manufacturers of same, (or am I just going too far there?!) The diagrams are excellent, clear and direct, but I do shudder at some of the advice and content. Where has the soul gone in restoration if our first turn is to a synthetic filler rather that a sympathetic, honest to goodness timber repair/restoration.
