Editorial Reviews

Sometimes, four legs are better than two. Dan (Brendan Fraser, The Mummy franchise) just moved his wife and son to the woods to take a new job with a supposedly eco-friendly housing development. But the fur and Dan's temper is sure to fly when the local critters learn of the bleak plans for their forest home and stop at nothing to halt construction. Brooke Shields (TV's Lipstick Jungle ), Matt Prokop (High School Musical 3: Senior Year), Ken Jeong (Knocked Up) and Angela Kinsey (TV's The Office ) co-star in this comedy for the whole family.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Family Fun!!! May 12, 2010
I thought this movie was cute and perfect to watch with your kids. I honestly don't know why it has such low ratings. It's very funny. Brendan Fraser stars as a real estate developer named Dan Sanders who is planning to tear down the forest and build a mall. The animals of the forest soon decide to take matters into their own paws and make Dan's life miserable, until he realizes what they want. Dan's wife, Tammy doesn't believe him about the animals, and insists that he gets therapy. During an eco friendly fair, the animals will have their revenge against the man who is making Dan destroy the forest. If you love comedies, and children's movies, you'll love FURRY VENGEANCE!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Just enjoy it. May 9, 2010
You buy your ticket. You park your logic and adult brain at the door. As you enter, you pull your 6th grade humor
back from the netherlands of childhood. And you just go with the absurdness of it all. And laugh. And remember that if animals could, they would. Enjoy.

So, my friend has a review on here, too, and she felt that my original review was too short and not explanatory enough as to why I hated this movie, and my kid didn't think all that much of it. I said, Well, we'll watch it again with the five year old I'm sitting, and I'll get back to you. I'm back, and here are some of the problems with this movie - and I am not writing it as to what I like or dislike as an adult, I am writing about it as a parent. Big difference. Firstly, this is so badly written, and it makes the fatal mistake of kids' movies - as far as I am concerned - of making the characters and even the animals if not flat out mean, as characters you won't really care about. The animals are all very generic - there's a raccoon, a skunk, a bear and alot of birds with gastric difficulties, and they go after Brendon Fraser's character, Dan, because he works for a company that is going to take them off their preserve. The movie opens with the animals - live action, by the way, and they don't talk like in most films along this vein -, running a boorish, cigar smoking loudmouth over a cliff, car and all. The five year old watching this with my son and I the second time never cracked a smile, and asked about ten minutes later, "Did the guy in the car get out okay?" Either make it cartoonish humor, like "Roger Rabbitt" did, showing that the guy suffered a couple of lumps on the head, etc., or don't put it in. Okay, the movie then goes on for ninety minutes about these animals making Brendon's life miserable; they bang on his window all night, lock him in an outhouse, etc. etc., and it is greatly the fault of the writers, but none of it's funny. Brendon is a jerk, his son and wife are borderline cardboard, and everyone else in the movie is, yes, now the word 'mean' works. Read more ›

5.0 out of 5 stars Speaking Of Green... July 1, 2013
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
This is sorta of a green film. It features a developer (Brendan Fraser, whoo-hoo!) who moves his family to the country where he is developing a housing project. Brooke Shields plays his wife. The animals do not approve and make it CLEAR they do not. A nice little film.

5.0 out of 5 stars loved it! June 10, 2013
Absolutely loved it!!!! A clean, hilarious movie you can even watch with your family. What a concept. No foul language, no inappropriate behavior, again...WOW. The construction guys and their crew leader were amazingly awesome. Frank was an absolute hoot. The security guy was so stereotypical it was so on target.Brendon and Brooke were great too(of course), good chemistry.. Ken from "Community" incredible no matter what he is in. Did anyone know he is an MD too? Such energy. I love seeing him in anything, as do I love seeing "Angela" from "The Office". Those "little" sitcoms sure are producing very versatile and talented people. The rest of the ensemble was great too. As for the animals talking...I thought the picture communication was just fine. Again, a fun, light-hearted FAMILY movie, no filth, no nasty, no mind numbing and traumatizing storyline. How refreshing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars SUCK IT UP August 1, 2012
This is definitely a kids' movie and one that may be difficult for adults to sit through. The animals in the forest not only understand English but are well versed in the laws of physics and automobile operation. The Japanese boss is unmercifully stereo-typed. Animals attack Fraser, who is leading the way to destroy their habitat for the "green" company he works for, except no one but him sees the animals.

Eventually the animals let out a full assault on the humans. Extremely kid friendly as no animal dies in the movie. The message is that companies which claim to be green are not really green. It would be a good movie to watch along with some BP ads. There is some toilet humor. Most of the humor is of the slapstick variety, with maybe one joke aimed at adults.

How many Daily Show stars can you identify in cameo roles?

Just a fun movie... Brendan Fraser is a Family Fun silly Jerry Lewis type - (and very cute, which doesn't hurt!) check out the George in the Jungle movies too if you find this movie amusing. As for the reviewer about the "danger" the animals cause - "OH Come on!!" I am an avid animal lover - and as "real" animals could never do these things (we hope!!!) this is just FUN!! Great for family nights! And, to boot, the movie has a message about saving our open spaces and the animals within them. Awesome.

Slapstick humor combined with shallow but endearing characters somehow combine to create a fun family movie. A favorite with my children, who just howl with laughter.
