More About the Author

M. Scott Peck's publishing history reflects his own evolution as a serious and widely acclaimed writer, thinker, psychiatrist, and spiritual guide. Since his groundbreaking bestseller, The Road Less Traveled, was first published in 1978, his insatiable intellectual curiosity has taken him in various new directions with virtually each new book: the subject of healing human evil in People of the Lie (1982), where he first briefly discussed exorcism and possession; the creative experience of community in The Different Drum (1987); the role of civility in personal relationships and society in A World Waiting to Be Born (1993); an examination of the complexities of life and the paradoxical nature of belief in Further Along the Road Less Traveled (1993); and an exploration of the medical, ethical, and spiritual issues of euthanasia in Denial of the Soul (1999); as well as a novel, a children's book, and other works. A graduate of both Harvard University and Case Western Reserve, Dr. Peck served in the Army Medical Corps before maintaining a private practice in psychiatry. For the last twenty years, he has devoted much of his time and financial resources to the work of the Foundation for Community Encouragement, a nonprofit organization that he helped found in 1984. Dr. Peck lives in Connecticut.

4.0 out of 5 stars Further Along the Road less travelled, April 28, 2010
This road not unlike its Biblical counterpart, leads to LIFE, that FEW travel. LIFE IS DIFFICULT and further along, also COMPLEX;full of paradoxes. The main one is LEARNING TO LIVE AND DIE. The late Dr. Peck boldly romances death as an enigma and DEADLINE to human experience. As to LIFE, WE ARE HERE TO LEARN. People listened as he successfully remarried psychology with religion; the basis of all disorders (except congenital).Coming from a renowned psychiatrist, Zen Buddhist, turned Christian and author, is most refreshing. His eulogy that we are spiritual beings with God the essence of the unseen order, generalizes it to all religions. Spritual growth through changes in attitude, are painful but must be overcome to attain maturity- the bulls eye of his conceptual concentric path-way.Conversely, many more immature people don't "self-correct" or submit to a higher power. These are "People Of the Lie.". They lie to themselves and others. Credited with habitual playing of BLAMING GAMES; (first coined by psychiatrist-author Dr. Eric Berne)the most common of all psychiatric games, they are on the path to destruction. Dr. Peck's first book is devoted to this group, but, he sounds a warning of suicide if they can't ride out the very painful, internal chaos of their self-serving, manipulation. Both groups embody my own family and the deeply moving, profound truths, confirm my own convictions, for the most part. To be numbered in the few, gave me new heart to continue on my journey.I didn't know that I was on the right track, till I read this book, ten years after reading "The Road Less Travelled". "Scotty" will be missed.Elizabeth Laine author of,"A Butterfly Landed An Eagle".

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
i've ordered a book which was advertised by a seller as used by a single user and in a very good condition. well, the book i received has been recycled from the library and it doesn't even correspond to the picture advertised. plus, the book i got, if being bought as a new costs 5.99 pounds (equivalent of $9.8), but the seller on amazon charged me for the recycled one $11.
