This is the same book as "Crack in My Foundation",

Being a huge Keyes fan, I was so excited to find a book of essays that I hadn't read yet...except when it arrived I discovered that I already have it, since it has EXACTLY the same content as "Cracks in My Foundation", which i thoroughly enjoyed three months ago when I bought it - just a different cover and title. Having said that, Marian Keyes remains true to form, and the book is hillarious, giving you a broader view of her family, "Himself", her travels on book tours, etc. It also includes half a dozen or so short stories that she wrote early on in her career. It was facinating to see her talent from the beginning, and her initial attempts at writing. A hysterical read that I highly recommend! Just don't be like me and buy the same book twice!

Still funny,

I loved the "Under Duvet". It was so funny; I even copied the "himself". So I have very high expectations about this one. The writings that are published on magazines are still great. Her relations with her family and other people are really funny. But I got bored at some of the short stories. But still a very good book to read.

True, I love "Rachel's Holiday" and "The other side of the story", but I'm definitely not an unconditional, must-read-all Marian Keyes fan. Actually, Under the Duvet and Further under the duvet may well be my favorite books by MK. You can tell she started with short stories - she's got a knack for them. These are real-life Marian anecdotes and aside from the getting-to-know-an-author you-like aspect, they're true to her style, depicting her travels, life as a writer and so forth, only funnier (not always mind you, there are a couple of sad stories in there).
Reading this book is kind of like having dinner with friends when there's really entertaining story-telling and laughter going on. You may not commit it all to memory but you'll remember you spent a great moment. |
