More About the Author

Peter Abrahams - "criminally gifted" according to the New York Times Book Review - is the author of 27 novels. These include the New York Times bestselling Echo Falls mystery series for middle-graders (DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE, BEHIND THE CURTAIN, INTO THE DARK) and REALITY CHECK (2009) for teens. Among his adult books are OBLIVION (Shamus prize finalist), THE FAN (made into a movie with Robert DeNiro) and LIGHTS OUT (Edgar award finalist). DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE was a finalist for the Edgar best young adult mystery award and won the Agatha in the same category. BEHIND THE CURTAIN and INTO THE DARK were Agatha finalists. In her Cleveland Plain Dealer review of NERVE DAMAGE (2007), Michelle Ross wrote: "I swear, if one more literary person says in that oh-so-condescendng tone, 'Oh, I don't read ... mysteries,' I'm going to take a novel by Peter Abrahams and smack him on his smug little head." REALITY CHECK won the best young adult mystery Edgar award in 2010. ROBBIE FORESTER AND THE OUTLAWS OF SHERWOOD STREET, January 2012, is first in a new middle-grade series about a twelve-year-old Robin Hood in contemporary Brooklyn.
As Spencer Quinn, Abrahams also writes the New York Times bestselling Chet and Bernie mystery series: DOG ON it, THEREBY HANGS A TAIL, TO FETCH A THIEF, and THE DOG WHO KNEW TOO MUCH. He has a website - peterabrahams.com; and so does Chet - chetthedog.com.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing story, but shows promise to come., May 5, 2004

"Fury of Rachel Monette" is a thriller where a young Jewish woman searches for her abducted son, but soon finds herself at the center of an international conspiracy to destroy Israel. She crosses paths with another Jewish man with a dark past, and who is the key to the whole conspiracy. The idenitity of the abductor is shocking, and you will feel gratified at the ending, but the whole thing rings hollow by the time you get there.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Crime of Passion, June 3, 2008
"When do we take off our masks, put on our hats and walk off the stage?" The victim was lured into this trap with one of the robot's enthusiasm about cooking a meal for her. He supposedly worked in the kitchen of an expensive restaurant who works with social workers to hire felons right out of prison. He's not as young as he appears and his fingers have no finger nails. She thought they were messages from God, and he was the "real man" she'd asked God to send to her.

Using toys to make up for their deficiency, nothing works right. Long and floppy, it is frustration for the girl. They needed to make terrific adjustments but did not know how. That's just the beginning of weird abnormal behavior and they know only the animal version which doesn't work. "Get on your knees" is not for an execkution but an aborigense approach. "I suppose I did...but I can't remember when I did, or how." These men are demented, but though she talked like a lady, she could fight like wildcats. One got away but how many of the homeless were lured into damnation and didn't live to talk about it. Too many people talked too much. Rachel was driven by a quiet fury and absolutely would not give up her quest until she learns the truth. This was a journey back in time which taught other bad times whe had wanted to forget. She learned how to use her own destructive power. We are only on this earth once and for too short a time to hurt the people we love. Rachel did not know the meaning of the word forgiveness but, thank goodness, Mark, knows all words and even how to spell them. He was the object of her fury. It was the devil at work to make people unhappy and run away. If you run from the one you hurt even inadvertently, you may never have another chance for someone to love you. A person with unloving parents grows up to commit the same mistakes and still has a lot to learn as we pass through our time here on earth. I like that song, "Love Will Keep Us Together."
