Intelligent...Masterly... A droll, soulful film. --The New York Times

Funny! Zalica shows a particular knack for comedy. --Variety

Unflinchingly honest and darkly funny! Brilliantly controlled. --The Museum of Modern Art

Product Description

Fuse (Gori Vatra) – Amazon.com Exclusive

This brilliantly controlled debut feature opens with a jolt symbolic of the dangers buried beneath the surface of a small rustic village in Bosnia. Two years after the civil war has officially ended, Serbs and Muslims are trying to live and work together. A dryly humorous tone contrasted with a shrewd sense of reality, even in the tragic legacy of post-war Bosnia, balances this beautifully wrought political satire.

Times are tough indeed, and everyone has to make his or her living in some sort of illegal way. It's an unflinchingly honest and darkly funny depiction of a poor, corrupt community struggling to hide its unlawful activities, unhappy alliances, amidst an attempt to establish some sort of democracy. Pjer Zalica combines techniques from 1960s East European comedies and his background in documentaries to generate a steady stream of sparks, built around a single, quasi-political event (Clinton is planning a visit).

"Intelligent...Masterly...A droll, soulful film." -New York Times

"Unflinchingly honest and darkly funny!" -The Museum of Modern Art

5.0 out of 5 stars Liked Kusturica? you'll love this one! March 8, 2007
Format:DVD
Fast paced, hilarious yet deep - this movie very realisticly describes the Bosnia I've come to live in and love during the war.

Been looking for this on DVD since I've seen the movie 3 years ago.

Go for it, you wont regret it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Black comedy about post-war Serbia September 13, 2014
Format:Amazon Instant Video
This is equal parts tragedy and comedy. Bill Clinton is coming to visit this Serbian town and the advance party tries to get the mayor to plan a suitable welcoming festivity and hide all the criminal activity that's going on. In the meantime, the war still intrudes--one local girl returned from Germany has her legs mutilated by a land mine outside her old house--the father of a man who was killed trying to escape the war with his girlfriend talks to his ghost regularly--the black market in goods and hookers still thrives--the Serbs and the Bosnians, who used to be neighbors, still distrust each other. It's a statement on the absurdity of war as well as the resilience of people who've been through it and survived. Good movie.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic little piece. May 17, 2008
Format:DVD
Although I agree with each of the other reviews, do not let them make you think that this movie is (all) a downer--it has some wonderful, funny moments. A lit of them, actually. As sad and touching and surreal... like life. Do yourself a favor and watch this movie... does any one know where I can get the soundtrack?

5.0 out of 5 stars Perspective April 6, 2008
Format:DVD
It is worth while, every so often, to look at art the way it used to be -- moral. Because suffering leads to introspection, most of the art coming from Bosnia is moral. This movie is no exception.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent movie January 23, 2008
Format:DVD
One of the best movies from Bosnia (former Yugoslavia).
It will break your heart and make you think...how fragile we humans are.
