4.0 out of 5 stars Good basic review book
If you are just starting out (like you've had a class, get home, and say to yourself "now what do I do"?), this is a really good book to have on hand. It is an older book, true, so some of the kiln options, etc. are a bit dated. But the techniques of finding out if your glass is compatible or the annealing process are still very valid. 3.0 out of 5 stars Good material, dated projects...
A word to the wise for any novice thinking of purchasing this book to expand the uses for their ceramic kiln...It's not the same kind of kiln. Also, the book seemed to be thorough with instructions for the 30+ projects; keep in mind that this book, and its projects, is 13 years old. Don't expect to be inspired by the examples.

There's much to be learned from this book, especially if you want the comfort of a good resource on your shelf and available.

5.0 out of 5 stars the original classic text on glass fusing, January 20, 2000

Gil Reynolds is one of the best teachers of fused glass. He writes a clear and thorough text for the beginner, but this book also has very useful information for the more advanced glass fuser. I consider it to be one of the top three books on fusing.

A great book with a lot of helpful advice. It's not too technical and easy to understand. I've shared it with my other glass fusing peers and each of us learned something different from it. It's a short book and some of the projects are a little outdated but I did great ideas from seeing them.

4.0 out of 5 stars good investment for the beginner, April 1, 2007
This review is from: Fused Glass Handbook (Paperback)
I found this book very interesting. I'm new to glass fusing and although it goes into more of the larger type pieces. I found the information quite useful. It contains patterns and step by step instructions on how to do each piece.
The only drawback I found is that most of the photos are in black and white.

5.0 out of 5 stars every beginner needs this book, January 31, 2008

This book was written some time ago, so don't expect to find information on the latest equipment or glass. What you will find, from one of the best teachers out there, is solid information on all type of hot glass work including molds and form making supplies. You get more than just an overview, there are plenty of details and the schedules (and explaination for them) will be invaluable. The book is easy to read, cover to cover, and well layed out with good indexes to find topics as needed. This book should be in everyones library. And if you get a chance, take a class with Mr Reynolds, it will be well worth your time. This book does not cover bead making.

This book is a good resource for begining to intermediate fusers. There aren't very many new ideas, but the technical info is solid and sound.

1.0 out of 5 stars Old book, December 12, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Fused Glass Handbook (Paperback)
I found this book very old. Mostly the book is black and white. The information inside refers mostly to how to use a kiln and how to fire, examples are not nice (old style) to my opinion. The price is high to what it is.
