Biography

Smash Mouth (named after Mike Ditka's term "smash mouth football") was formed in San Jose, Calif., in 1994 when boyhood friends and former band compadres Steve Harwell (vocals) and Kevin Coleman (drums) recruited Greg Camp (guitar) from a local cover band. Camp then persuaded Paul De Lisle (bass), with whom he'd played in another outfit, to take a chance on the new band.

4.0 out of 5 stars This gave them their name...., February 19, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Fush Yu Mang (Audio CD)
If you've ever heard songs like "All Star" and "Then the Morning Comes", you've probably wondered "Why are they called Smash Mouth? They're a good-time pop music band." Well, pick up Fush Yu Mang and you'll see why the name of their band is "Smash Mouth". This CD is VERY different than Astro Lounge, I like alot of others, picked this CD up because of their amazingly catchy music on "Astro Lounge", but this CD is full of punk rock music with the exception of "Walkin' on the Sun". Songs like "All Star" "Can't Get Enough of You Baby" and "Then the Morning Comes" were done by the band because of how successful "Walkin' on the Sun" was, so they continued the formula of that song with "Astro Lounge", but now they have another CD out called "East Bay Sessions", which continues the formula of "Fush Yu Mang". Anyways, there are some good songs on here, the CD isn't completely bad. Of course, we all know "Walkin' on the Sun is the CD's best, but you'll also love "The Fonz" because that song isn't too heavy punk rock...

4.0 out of 5 stars great CD!, June 23, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Fush Yu Mang (Clean) (Audio CD)
When I first heard "walkin' on the sun" I really liked it a lot. But there was no way I would get the CD. My mom liked "walkin' on the sun" a lot, she also likes allstar (which a great song!)so bassicly me and my mom like smash mouth. For my birthday I asked someone to get me Smash Mouth new album, Astro Lounge. But they got confused and got me Fush Yu Mang. When my mom found "walkin' on the sun" was a track on it, she said "You should listen to it first, and if you don't like it, we can trade it for Astro Lounge at the CD trading store. So i did what she said. When I listened to it I was suprised of how much I liked it. I was also suprised that I found "Beer Goggles" better than "Walkin' on the sun". The only thing that I don't like about it is "why can't we be friends". I recommened

4.0 out of 5 stars This is the best Smash Mouth album that there is so far., February 23, 2005
By
This review is from: Fush Yu Mang (Audio CD)
Smash Mouth's Fush Yu Mang is a great album. It is a great sounding punk and ska sounding type album, with a few other styles thrown in. The following is what I thought of each song off of this Smash Mouth album.

1. Flo - This is a great album opener and is a good fast song. 5/5

2. Beer Goggles - This is another fast and funny song. 4/5

3. Walkin' On The Sun - This is the best Smash Mouth song and a classic retro sounding hit. 5/5

4. Let's Rock - This is another fast song about rocking. 4/5

5. Heave-Ho - This is another good song. It is about your landlord getting mad and kicking you out. 5/5

6. The Fonz - This is a funny song about the Fonz from Happy Days of course. 4/5

7. Pet Names - This is one of my favorite songs on this album, along with Walkin' On The Sun. 5/5

8. Padrino - This is a weird sounding song about the mob. 3/5

9. Nervous In The Alley - Another favorite that got some radio play in their hometown of San Jose, California before Walkin' On The Sun got really big. 5/5

10. Disconnect The Dots - This is another good song. Not as good as some other songs on this album though. 4/5

11. Push - This is another good fast song off of this album. 5/5

12. Why Can't We Be Friends? - This is a hit cover song of the War classic. Despite it being a hit, it is very repetitive and goes on way too long repeat Why Can't We Be Friends? for almost the last two minutes of this song. 3/5

I only wish that Smash Mouth continued with the style that they had on this album. Their second album Astro Lounge is good too, but not as good as this. And the albums after Astro Lounge are not nearly as good as the first two. Let's hope that they return with their next album sounding more like this one or even Astro Lounge.

I hope my review of the Smash Mouth album Fush Yu Mang helped you.
