5.0 out of 5 stars A Very Kirei & Kawaii Story, June 2, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 3: Disciple (Paperback)
Yuu Watase is one of the best of manga artists that I've read. Her work of art is incredible and her storyline amazes me. Being an anime/manga fan for the past ten years, Fushigi Yuugi is one of my most favorite and treasured manga.

Volume 3 takes place right after Miaka just returns to Ancient China inside the mysterious book that began her journey and is grabbed from behind. Yui has disappeared into the book and Miaka is determined to find her before war breaks out between Kutou and Konan (I'm using the Japanese names 'cause I forgot the Chinese equivalent for Kutou, sumimasen). When she finds Yui she is shocked that her best friend has become her rival, the Seiryuu no Miko (Priestess of Seiryuu). She loses her friend, but is determined to get her back dispite how Yui treats her. Also if you're a Tamahome w/ Miaka fan, you'll probably like this book.

It's strange, they've all ready published the fourth book with a Tasuki, Nuriko, & Tamahome cover, but they're republishing it again with the cover that Flower Comic's Publish did. I own the fourth book and wanted to write a review for it (and especially for all those Fushigi Yuugi fans who are dying to know what happens next and doesn't have the fourth book). I've decided to add a little in here if you want to know.

In volume 4. Miaka sets out on her journey to find the rest of the constellations of Suzaku. In her quest she falls prisoner to a mountain fortress of bandits and ends up in a plague-cursed village where she literally has to die to survive. Also my most favorite of all anime guys appear in this book. His name's Tasuki. He's also the most best looking of them all. Enjoy Fushigi Yuugi.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read for manga fans!, February 10, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 3: Disciple (Paperback)
If you are a manga lover and have not checked out Fushigi Yuugi yet, let me recommend it. I am writing this review for book 3, but I am giving an over-all recommendation for the entire series. Maybe it doesn't have an American T.V. show yet (I stress yet because I dare to dream) but it is one of the best mangas I have read.

In this novel, more of the characters are introduced as the heroine (Miaka) searches for her "bodyguards" who will help her make a wish. Major plot twist occur (that I don't want to spoil) as she tries to stay alive in ancient China! I have totally just simplified the plot, and looking back, I didn't do it justice, but I swear that I don't want to spoil any of the story. Maybe I'm just strange, but I totally fell in love with this series and the characters in it (esp. Tamahome), and this book definitely met my expectations. Now all I have to ask is when will the next volume come out?

If you're looking for technical stuff, I would recommend that you get the first two volumes first, otherwise it'll be confusing. And, if you wonder about this kind of stuff, there is romance and a little harmless flesh shown. I wasn't offended, but I don't know about others. I recommend this series whole-heartedly, but I am admittedly biased. :) Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't Wait For More, November 14, 2001
This review is from: Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 3: Disciple (Paperback)
Yu Watase is an amazing artist who weaves an intriguing story through her art. All of the books are quite amazing, and Watase's style is uniquely strong.
As always, the characters of Fushigi Yuugi are vivid and fun. Laugh at the cuteness of Tamahome's siblings, hold your breath as you wait for the monk to reveal his identity, and chew your nails as the plot unfolds, taking dangerous twists and turns before your eyes--don't forget to order the 4th one, because before you know what's happening, you're done and wishing you had "Bandit" to read!

5.0 out of 5 stars exciting and suspenseful shoujo manga, August 16, 2001
This review is from: Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 3: Disciple (Paperback)
In Yu Watase's 3rd volume of the very fun and interesting Fushigi Yugi, lots of fun things happen. New characters are met including a new seishi and we get to know Tamahome's family a little more. People get sick, love is declared...DRAMA! Of the good sort that is...

Once again Yu Watase has turned out a wonderful plot with lots of fun and enticing twists and turns. I definately recomend this 3rd volume to you. If you like the first two...you'll definately like this one too.

Happy reading all!

5.0 out of 5 stars Mysterious Play, May 28, 2001

This review is from: Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 3: Disciple (Paperback)
Fushigi Yugi is a wonderful story. One of my friends at school read it and said it was good, so I figured, what the heck, I'll try it! They didn't have the first 2 volumes, just the 3rd book, so I got it. I followed the story amazingly well. It was excellent! It really pulled me into the story. I can't wait to get the rest! This story is about a girl who goes into the world of a book, and falls in love with one (more like most) of the character(s). In this volume, Miaka meets Chirchiri (no da?). Tamahome reveals how he really feels about Miaka. Also, Miaka finds Yui. But she's the Priestess of Seiryu! Yui turns on Miaka and insists on ripping Miaka and Tamahome apart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great story!, February 16, 2001

This review is from: Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 3: Disciple (Paperback)
I just got through reading Volume 3: Disciple and it's great! The artwork is wonderful as always and the translation is done pretty good. In this volume, Miaka goes to Qu-Dong to look for her best friend Yui all by herself! Find out what happens when Miaka learns that there is a Priestess of Seiryu whom she believes is Yui. And for all you Chichiri fans out there, Viz decided to keep Chichiri's "no da!" Yay!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting series continuation., January 12, 2006
Yu Watase, Fushigi Yugi: Disciple (Viz, 2000)

The third book in the Fushigi Yugi series dips a bit at first, but quickly roars back to become ever better than before. Miaka and the celestial warriors are basically wandering about waiting to find the next celestial warrior, and they find him in Chichiri, the mystical "cat-guy" whose powers complement the others quite nicely. All of this is well and good, and covers roughly the first half of the book (though we do get more background on Tamahome as well), which is readable, but nothing special. The second half, on the other hand, is all that and a bag of oysters, as Miaka and the crew find out there's a rival priestess and reveal her identity.

Lots of fun. *** ½

5.0 out of 5 stars the begining of an awesome story, July 21, 2003
This review is from: Fushigi Yugi: The Mysterious Play, Vol. 3: Disciple (Paperback)
Vol.3 is like the best out of 1 and 2 it has like romantic parts to it with tamahome and miaka that will make your hair stand up, in the begining it introduces chihiri but they do not mention his name only "the cat guy" thne they introduce tamahomes father and family really cute, but that is when the fun starts, his family gets under attack trying to kill miaka, and miaka thinks it is all her fault so she leaves and almost gets eaten by a tiger so tamahome comes to the rescue and there she tells him to leave her alone and he is in shock and like hugs her from behind!!really tight! really cute and then she meets yui and there miaka gets kidnapped and so tamahome comes to the rescue again, and off course them by themselves, tama tells her why did she run off? and then you see yui in shock, and there the story gets even better, so I recommend that you buy this vol. really good!!
