Forta takes you from the start of Cold Fusion and SQL. If you are new to programming and SQL, this is the book for you. I was writing data interface apps in a few hours. A great book overall. Worth the read. I still use it as a reference regularly! A must have for the Cold Fusion developer.

I am about one quarter of the way through this book and have enjoyed the content. However, I find that many of the "tutorial" threads within the sections have many errors. In particular, references to screen shots or code examples do not always correlate with the reference. Some of the technical information is either innacurate or out of date. In particular, some issues on activating ODBC databases for use with Cold Fusion either led to errors that I could not find solutions for, or were just plain incorrect. Also, one of the earlier sections explaining SQL and its use caused me some headaches. The version of MSQUERY was quite different than depicted in the book and it took some trial and error to work around it. Overall, I find that most of the tutorial threads do indeed work, even if you have to make some ad hoc changes in the implementation. Though errors in books and tutorials are generally annoying, you may find that you tend to better remember the solutions, and hence the implementations, once you find them. My 2 cents

This book was fantastic. Sure there are the few editing errors common with computer books. I knew NOTHING about Cold Fusion or database connectivity to the web before I got this and now I've written a dozen or so Cold Fusion applications for the UPS intranet. An EXCELLENT resource for beginners and professionals with a tag index for quick referencing. A chapter on SQL also for those who don't know it. It will teach you everything you need to know to get your application online and running. Great Great Great!

I read the first edition--and that was my introduction to both databases and Cold Fusion. It was a great book. And the second edition is even better! The author starts from very basic, and gradually takes the reader to the advanced concepts of Cold Fusion, all the time providing a real-life scenario-based development environment.

At first glance, this tome promises a great deal. Cold Fusion is an application that takes a moment to learn and a real long time to master with it's proprietary language. Forta helps the unwary web-maker through some of the finer points, but nothing that couldn't be found in Allaire's hopelessly weak documentation. I tried to rely on this book where the Allaire software docs fell short, but I ended up chasing red herrings in the poorly designed index. How a book that numbers 1024 pages can only have an index of 40 pages is beyond me. Sorry, but it lost my vote.

Being a beginner at Cold Fusion, this book was a life saver as I began to build dynamic intranet applications. After familiarizing myself with the background to database connectivity using ODBC, I was able to jump into the meat of the book -- developing database driven apps quickly and effeciently. I have found the tag and functions index in the book to be a true friend on several occasions.

I highly recommend the book to anyone who wants to learn Cold Fusion Programming. It is a great stand alone resource -- and even better if used in conjunction with the manuals supplied by Allaire with the purchased product.

You will not find a more complete and thorough book on Cold Fusion, or on any other technology for that matter, than Ben's book.

The guy knows his stuff, is thorough, and can write in English - you know the version of the language that mere mortals can understand.

Even though I am not a developer, I quit my 6 figure job to start my own Internet startup & develop my own web applications - in large part because Ben's book made me realized that even a novice like me can develop powerful CF applications.

This is the BIBLE for Cold Fusion. I have read a few too many compter books. This is the first one I finished and keeped around. The CD has codeing found in the samples in the book. Very easy reading for this type of book. It even teaches you some HTML. WOW.

I orderd this book so I could learn the basics of Cold Fusion, and I did and very quickly. You can pick this book and instantly start learning Cold Fusion.

I've read a lot of books from computer. Most of them about database access. Even though I'm not American and I'm very young, this book is easy and teaches you everthing you need to know about CF in a simple language, it isn't complicate as some CGI's books. It chapters are divided in sections that teaches you from the installation of the software, to the database advanced access. For those that are buikdin online stores it has a chapter dedicated to it. I really recommend this book for those who wants to deal with database access.
