5.0 out of 5 stars True talent beyond genrefication, June 12, 2001
This review is from: Fusion (Audio CD)
Aquarius was dope, but it was drum and bass with a hint of downtempo. Fusion, on the other hand, is a look into the future of, well, fusion. Drum and bass, house, nu jazz, downtempo, hip hop, breakbeat, and broken beat all make appearances here and each is given the care they so greatfully deserve. Roland Appel and Christian Prommer are a truely talented combo not to be missed. Fusion is only a recent notch in their belts. Consistently dropping amazing productions with Peter Kruder (Voom:Voom) and Rainer Truby (Truby Trio), these two need to be included in the list of the most talented and forward thinking producers that we are getting to experience. Just get the album and witness genius at work. They will also be mixing the next DJ Kicks with Rainer Truby as the Truby Trio which should be out before the end of summer. Peace.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fauna Flash - Fusion, February 22, 2011
This review is from: Fusion (Audio CD)
Fusion, the second album from Fauna Flash, has them abandoning the drum `n' bass that marked their first album in favor of downtempo and breaks. In fact, fusion is an appropriate description for the album as a whole, since they're expressing all sorts of musical influences: "Mother Nature" has a light dub feel (no doubt aided by the ragga chanting), while "Percussion" throws in some Latin horns and bongos. "Free" is sweet and delicate with Lawrence Welk strings before it moves into in some discordant synths; "Ten" goes for a house tempo underlaid with a dark bassline; and "Sunday at the Getty" is a double-bass driven slice of future jazz. Ending the album with the rap over "Question" is most likely a misstep, but this album definitely stands out among its peers.
