Sven takes us beyond one more time,
By A Customer
This review is from: Fusion (Audio CD)
This album is a bit more in the club vein than Sven's previous outings. It seems a bit less dramatic than his last 2 to me, but Fusion is still a fantastic work by one of the undisputed masters of trance. You will not be dissapointed. I'm giving it 4 stars only based on the fact that I would give his last album 5.

The "Godfather of Techno"'s long-awaited third masterpiece!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Fusion (Audio CD)
Fusion is the "tossed salad" of trance albums. It's a rollercoaster of pure bliss and a fresh, inviting pleasure for the ears. Whether you're driving, reading, dancing (raving), or trying to go to sleep, this album is a true anytime listener. I say "tossed salad" to describe the album simply because it has not SET style. It's trancy techno, true, but it floats through so many genres of electronic music. "Fusion", the first song, is a sort of Electronic Marching Band show, complete with a drumline, pit percussion, keyboardist, and horn players. It's the sort of song that requires a new dance step. "Discophon" follows with an array of new wave disco style sounds, full of bleeps, whistles, and marimbas. The next two tracks, "Sensual Enjoyments" and "Augenblick", allow the album to go into a trance-filled state full of dancy, yet romantic ambience. "Scorpio's Movement" then comes in full force as the hard trance track, allowing the album to reach its peak state. "Trippy Moonshine" then follows with a sound that transcends the trance plain into the vast deserts of Africa and Asia. You can almost sense the Egyptian culture peering out through the CD during this track. "Face It" immediately takes over. I'd have to say this is the "moral of the story" track. The serence lead vocals repeat for us to just "face it", and the melody is just extraordinary. You'll love this track, as many do. "Schubduse" sends the album into a whirling electronic abyss of Bjork-like sounds, hard tribal beats (which seem to almost remind me of old school hip-hop for some odd reason), and dominant synthesized chords. "Sounds Control Your Mind", the longest track, prepares the album for its conclusion; it sends the listener into a mind-controlling heaven of repetitive, yet "yummy" sounds. "Blue Spliff" closes the album in a jazz-like style, with string instruments, keyboard, bells, sly bass lines, and laid-back drums. This final track can sometimes remind me of being outdoors on a cool summer evening with a light breeze surrounding me, as I hold my beloved close to my heart. You'll love this album. Whether you love trance/techno or are not very familiar with it, this album has enough variety for any listener. The diversity between tracks is at first a bit odd, but after on or two listens, you'll find yourself saying, "This is the best album I've bought in a long time."
