Here comes Futaba..., May 29, 2003
This review is from: Futaba-kun Change: Clash of the Idols (Paperback)
I have long been a fan of Ranma 1/2, and was reluctant to try Futaba-kun Change because I thought that it would be too similar to Ranma. I was wrong. There are really no similarities between the two, only differences that make both stories enjoyable.
Like Ranma, Futaba changes genders at random moments. But whereas Ranma has to use hot or cold water, Futaba changes with stress or emotional excitement.
By the time the ninth or tenth book roles around, almost everyone knows that Ranma-chan and Ranma-kun are the same person, just two different sides. Futaba is enrolled in the school as two separate people, boy and girl. This is bound to cause confusion, especially since the same name is used for both.
And while Ranma is a disciple of the Anything Goes martial art style, Futaba is a wrestler. And the male team wants Futaba-chan (the girl) for their teammate, not realizing that they already have Futaba in their group!
Oh, did I mention that EVERYONE in Futaba's father's family changes gender as well? His dad goes to a woman (you'll find out who later on), and his sister turns into a very...obsessed man. We have yet to see the mother.
Anyway, get this book! I think you'll like it! (I'm pretty sure you'll like it if you like Ranma 1/2)
