5.0 out of 5 stars Delightful Catalogue, July 10, 2011

This review is from: Futur natura: La svolta di Balla 1916-1920 (Italian Edition) (Paperback)
I am amazed to see this catalogue for sale here. This is a catalogue for a relatively compact show at one private gallery in Milan which we went to see there in the late 90s, during a trip to Italy. I bought the book because, as these things go, this one was absolutely exquisite. The show featured a number of very dynamic watercolors for sale that were marvelously arranged in the quite small gallery. I found it amazing that such an impressive book would be printed for one small show. Not so amazing if one looked at the prices. It goes without saying that we were just there to look, and be delighted. But I knew somebody from my work at the time who actually had bought a Balla work-on-paper,elegantly hanging to the right of a big Picabia over the fireplace. So I knew how riveting these works-on-paper could be from that experience. So when I happened to read abou this show in a local Milanese newspaper, we made our way over to it, only a few blocks from our hotel. The show did not disappoint. In addition, they had the originally working model, which was electrically animated even, of Balla's stage- setting for Stravinsky's ballet Feu d'Artifice. It was in a big box and when the gallerist turned it on the musical score played and lights and moveable painted elements engaged. Quite incredible!
