First, let me say that I love this show. To the show, I would give it a rating of 4.5. This review is for the way the set is set up.

What in the hell is this? I was excited to get my set today. I opened it up and saw the things that held the DVDs. I knew I was in trouble. It is so cheaply made. You pull the thing holding the DVDs out and the freaking discs either fall out and roll all over the place, or they are so stuck in the thing you have to pry them out. Volumes 1 - 5 and The Beast with a Billion Backs have discs that are so badly damaged, that even after running them through a disc cleaner multiple times, they are still damaged. This is one of the cheapest sets I have ever seen. I got it from Familyvideo. I hope they let me get another set and still keep the one I have so that I can swap the discs. If not, I am just going to send this cheap piece of junk back. To anyone who gets this. Check each disc.

Just a quick update. I wrote to familyvideo. I told them about the damage and of how I would like to keep my set until I got another in order to swap the discs. In deed they said ok and are sending me another set with a return label. They are a great site with good prices on movies. Thank you familyvideo!!!!

This will be the last thing I add to this review. So I got my second set today. Damaged. This one was even worse. Some of the season cases were all bent up. One I thought the DVD was missing. It had just slid down in the case. I was able to fix all but two discs. One from volume 3 and the beast with a billion backs. I have been through this before with sets. So, instead of getting familyvideo to send me another complete set, I just ordered that volume and movie from trusted sellers, used like new on Amazon.

This product is terrible for DVDs. The cases are made cardstock paper which use slits to hold the discs. This scratchs the discs each time you pull them out and place them back in. This would be a great solution for Blu-Ray, since they don't scratch, but as these are DVDs which can be scratched by anything short of air this is a complete waste of money until the BD versions emerge. Not to mention the first 4 seasons still have the terrible navigation system from the past release and no play all feature has been added for the first 2 seasons to at least help.

Let me start off by saying the box is amazing, looks really cool. However once you slide out the cover you are left with the box and all the season and movies in their individual own CARDBOARD cases - whilst the designs on them look cool, the actual dvd cardboard cases are flimsy and cheap looking. What's even weirder is that two of my cases are damaged, one of the movie cases is squashed (this is what happens when you make the cases out of a weak material) and the other looks like its recived wear and tear, as in it looks like its been banged around a bit. Yet the large out box, has no damage to it at all, so it was damaged before it was put into the box). All the season's look like the updated released versions so they aren't anything new, or special for this new release, which is dissapointing. The actual discs are in stupid slots that make it hard to get the discs out, and I can tell that taking them out on multiple occasions will cause them to get scratched easily. The menu's are exactly the same as the old versions, no updated play all button has been added to the earlier seasons. If you already own Futurama on dvd then there would be no purpose in buying this box set, however if you don't own any of the Futurama seasons or movies then this is a good buy as its all together in a matching set. Also the so called "calendar" is just a poster sized picture. Bit of a overstatement to call it a calendar. In short, I like how it looks, not how its made. But I'm glad to finally own the complete set of futurama now.

First and foremost, it is what it says it is. This set includes every episode and TV movie of the Futurama series. The show itself is spectacular and highly recommendable. If you have earlier seasons of Futurama, the disc menus are the same. Seasons 1-4 have interesting interactive menus, but no "Play All" function, so each episode will need to be selected individually. The TV-movies have also kept their disc menu layouts without change, but the newer seasons do have "Play All". This discrepancy didn't affect my enjoyment of the show and did not have an impact on the rating I would give "The Complete Series."

What makes this a less-than-perfect collection is the packaging itself. Each season is packed into folded cardboard book-style packaging, and the discs are slipped into cardboard sleeves. Nearly a third of the discs were scratched, but fortunately not to the extent that it would affect playback. One of the discs was also stuck in the glue of the binding of the sleeve it was held in, and I had to peel back the cardboard to be able to wiggle it loose. Needless to say, I was not impressed by the packaging, but I was pleasantly surprised that all the discs were still playable despite scratching.

My suggestion, if you have the patience for it, is to buy The Complete Series if the price seems right, but buy a standard CD/DVD wallet with space for all 27 discs for better storage. (I wound up getting a 28 sleeve wallet and everything fits perfectly.) Be careful when removing the discs from the cardboard, as they have a tendency to stick and scratch, and check the discs to make sure they play. If they do, congratulations! You've got a great show to enjoy. If they don't, return them and hope for an undamaged set next time.

So, amazon has stopped selling this. But....
They pulled it after I called them to return it for a second time last week. When I received it, it was damaged just like yours was, so I requested an exchange. The replacement they sent had the exact same damage, and I guess their policy is to stop selling something when that happens so they can... Read More

Two box sets of Futurama the complete series?
The article you got that from says Amazon is currently showing the prototype boxart, but I don't know about the price difference. I still insist they should release it all on blu-ray anyway!

Where's the Blu-ray?
That would be a good excuse to release the first two movies on bluray in that set. Fox is failing here.
