5.0 out of 5 stars fire up the pimpmobile chumps and chumpettes! November 22, 2010
I waited and waited and waited and was finally rewarded when the last season came out. The creative force behind the series is still fresh, and the animation is stellar (no pun intended). The 2 best episodes: "The Late Phillip J Fry" and "A Clockwork Origin", both had complex plot lines and some of the most intricate scenes as far as the actual layout and art. Looking forward to many more seasons!

5.0 out of 5 stars Futurama Season 5 Does Not Disappoint! November 19, 2010
Season 5 is a very good season overall. The first couple episodes are great. All your favorites are back, and not just the main characters... Kif, Zapp Brannigan, Earth President Nixon (head), Elzar, etc... Besides the funny episodes we've come to expect Season 5 also gives us a couple of emotional roller-coasters too- while not quiet as sad as the fate given to Fry's dog in earlier seasons (later fixed in the first movie-Futurama - Bender's Big Score) you might shed a tear on the episode about Bender's birth or the Time Travel episode where Fry gets stuck in the future (again.. I guess.) Without giving away too much if for some reason you couldn't see this season when it aired on Comedy Central you will NOT be disappointed by this release. ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNOTOAD!

4.0 out of 5 stars par-ty!!! December 18, 2010
by the time you're through with this volume of futurama, you'll be reassured that it wasn't a mistake for it returning. i admit the first few episodes were average & little uneven....but by the time you get to the episode "the late philip j. fry", the momentum picks up to the point where you'll think you're watching a collection of classic "lost" episodes from the original run. unlike another animated show that returned from hiatus, futurama looks like it re-found its groove.....thank goodness.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Futurama we all love!! But...... December 26, 2010
By J-4
First off I am so glad to see the series return, and to return in fine fashion with all of the original cast intact. Thankfully the episodes are just as fun, varied, and clever as you remember....for the most part.

There were a few episodes that did not have that "oomph", and a time or two where it felt like they were trying a bit too hard to deliver a joke, but I would chalk that up to a bit of rust for being off the air for so long. Again this is absolutely nothing to try and deter any Futurama fan, or even those new to the series as there is plenty of wit, charm, and story to be found here with two episodes in particular I found to be not only fun to watch, but very...moving for a lack of a better word. The quality of episodes ramp up quickly, but I do feel it's only fair to dock them a half star for it.

So this is really a 4 and a half star review? No, the other half star comes off for the packaging. The artwork, while simple I find to be the best of all the others to date. My problem? The DVD sleeves. Yes I said sleeves, not cases. Even worse they are cardboard sleeves, so to continue using the original packaging to house your DVD will mean scratches will be inevitable. It's very disappointing to see them packaged this way, especially comparing this packaging to the previous 4 seasons where you got not only plastic cases for your dvd's, but episode names and a brief synopsis of each episode on the back of each case. The was not a step, but a leap back. Hopefully complaints of the packaging will mean that Season 6 will be packaged much better, even if that's just me being optimistic. I would advise getting some cases to house your DVD's instead of the packaging itself, especially if you are a repeat viewer like me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Futurama Lives On! November 30, 2010
I was one of those fans that was delighted when Adult Swim paired Family Guy and Futurama together. Giving a new generation, and existing fans reason to cheer.
I enjoyed the movies, and comics until it's actual re-birth in season 5. God Bless Comedy Central.
They know a good thing when they see it, and Futurama is a very good thing! The most awarded animated tv series, again, upon it's return, season 5 rocks!
Can't wait for next season, thank you to all who helped support this fun, well written and well acted animated series.

5.0 out of 5 stars Season 5 really did exist April 13, 2010
Despite what everyone else seems to think, amazon is correct in saying that this is season 5 of futurama. There were 5 aired seasons of futurama, but for dvd purposes they produced the series into just 4 volumes. I make that point so that people dont get too excited thinking that they've not season an entire season only to be dissapointed that they already own these episodes. But regardless this was a great season of futurama. Also be sure to check out the new season starting on june 24th on comedy central.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good news everybody December 9, 2010
If you are a geek, a nerd, a hacker or just someone who gets fidgety when Star Trek fan jokes are made and you never grew up this is what Saturday morning cartoons should have been, or at least now that you're an adult this is what your evening cartoon looks like. While the Simpsons lives on forever like a mutant zombie and Family Guy milks another joke tied to a bodily orifice or chicken suit Futurama sucks us in with superb character development, cutting edge humor, easter eggs for physics majors and makes a robot saying "death to all humans" all too lovable smoking cigars and chugging beer. What could be better? Well I could go on with numerous homages and quotes other than my title, but if you're here you probably know them and you probably saw the show.

I bought the first four seasons so I could watch them over and over... and over... and over... Until I went insane in the mainframe and needed to go out where the buggalo roam. I was sucking down slurm and snarfing popplers waiting with delight when the movies came out. Yeah, they screwed with the format and it was kind of like a watered down fix. This season proves that David X Cohen keeps with funny and never allows himself to get too preachy even though he's all over the kind of things that is bound to upset someone. Nicely done on sticking to funny. Even those of us not a fan of Al Gore find him enjoyable when he shows up in here (his daughter works on the show). If you missed some episodes or just want to watch them until you can recite the lines without dealing with commercials that aren't beamed directly into your brain get this. Otherwise explain to the class what you are doing in your underwear and why they aren't lightspeed briefs. After all you can't just sit there all day in your underwear listening to classical music. Oh, yeah... underpants is funnier...

Here's hoping for many more seasons of the best animated show ever!

One of the disc was scratched so bad, I couldn't play a couple episodes or special features. Disappointing considering there aren't too many episodes in a season.

I don't believe in "volumes"
then you must realy hate the first 4 volumes which make up the 5 seasons that aired on fox. This set is a full season.more anamation shows have to make 2 or more seasons at once to keep cost down. I think it was DXC who said it cost ratio of production cost of one season to two was 1:1.5 .
