Editorial Reviews

Blast off your inhibitions as The Simpsons creator Matt Groening brings you another far-out collection of FUTURAMA; fun! In addition to a full payload of outrageous extras not shown on TV, Volume Six delivers 13 mind-Bendering new episodes that involve time travel, self-replication, covert missions, alien eggs, and more robot roughhousing than you can shake a girder at. It's a scream...the good kind!

During its original run, Futurama was one of the best comedies on television, and its return from an unjust cancellation was, to say the least, welcome. Fan opinion on the revived basic-cable Futurama was split- some hailed it as a return to form, some called for the execution of all involved. Season 6 will be no less controversial, I'm sure, but in my opinion it was "pretty good".

There's not much to say plot-wise: if you're reading this review, you've probably watched and loved the first five seasons, and the sixth is much like. I do have to say that it's a drop in quality from the previous, but you'll get more than your fill of the crazy adventures of Fry, Leela, Bender and the whole Planet Express crew in this 13-episode set. Highlights include the Zoidberg-centric "The Tip of the Zoidberg", "Cold Warriors" and the non-canon anthology "Reincarnation". I would recommend purchasing this DVD to any Futurama fan or fan of comedy in general.

Futurama 6 is still as hilarious as the earlier seasons. I've gone through both disks twice and once with commentary and still laugh at parts. The special features are good, but I wish there was more behind-the-scenes footage. I always enjoy watching voice actors in the studio, which you do get a glimpse of John and Billy, but I wish it showed the rest of the cast.

I wasn't sure how much of difference blu-ray would make on a cartoon, but it looks great on my TVs so I'm glad I bought them.

WARNING WHEN BUYING THIS PRODUCT: When you purchase this product, it would be best if you purchased a plastic 2-disc empty DVD case. The packaging this item comes with is a poorly constructed DVD case made from a thick card-stock-like paper that is very tacky-looking and easily damaged. It is very poor quality, and if I could tell the people who designed it, I would tell them to shove their design up their own butt-holes.

When I received this item the DVD case was wrinkled and damaged, but luckily the disc inside wasn't damaged and worked fine when I tested it in my DVD player. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THAT YOU TEST OUT THE DISC AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.

The only reason I gave this 3 stars instead of 2 is because I like Futurama. Very poor design.

In the second season back after several years of cancellation, the Futurama crew has hit their groove once again! I've been a die hard fan since Futurama's inception, and I was absolutely ecstatic when they decided to bring it back from extinction. All the original episodes are near and dear to my heart, so I can truly understand why some of the fans build up their expectations so much that it's hard not to criticize the new episodes, but I have to say I'm finding the same 80/20 awesome/filler ratio I found in all the old seasons. They're still finding ways to spoof current events in a futuristic context, cramming in enough jokes that you find new things to laugh at the 5th time through, etc. All the things I loved about the early days with the Planet Express crew are true to form in their return...with the added benefit of HD! I can't get enough, and I hope they keep doing this for years to come. It's gonna be FUN ON THE BUN!

I hate the packaging for this because its cardboard slide ins and the discs will get ruined very easily with each slide in and out. I wish the packaging had plastic holder at least, I mean come on all the previous ones excluding #5 had way better holders and packaging.

They got too lazy on this one in my opinion both on the packaging and also the show. The shows comedy seems to be slipping up a bit compared to earlier episodes. Other than that my biggest dislike is the packaging and harder to keep discs from getting ruined. I will not re purchase this item just because the discs got ruined like the company probably hopes for. If I knew they were packaged like this I wouldn't have even bought it to begin with.

I purchased seasons 1-4 on DVD when they first came out and the packaging and discs were fantastic - thick doubled cardstock with clear disc holders in a 4 or 5 part folded packaging that came with a thick cardstock sleeve.

The packaging for Season 6 was made of a thinner card stock. The discs were mounted directly into the doubled cardstock via slots cut into it as makeshift sleeves (scratch promoting friction mount). This allows the discs to fall out and jostle in transit. Due to Amazon's "no hassle" packaging, one of two discs rattled about in transit and delaminated due to impact. The tri-fold sleeve is mounted into a thin cardstock sleeve, but this did not increase the sturdiness of the packaging nor prevent the violent jostling in transit as a proper DVD case should.

The discs themselves were both partially delaminated from the inner ring. The delamination from a single side to one disc indicated severe jostling and impact during transit, but the delamination from the inner ring, radiating outward indicates cheap manufacture, not unlike those "Four Movies for the Price of One" DVDs at WalMart. I expect the one good disc to delaminate to a non-working condition within a year or two.

Given these quality standards, it's no wonder folks pirate these products. I've seen highschool students make higher quality copies.

By contrast, the video quality on the working disc is what I expected in a professional DVD. Also the creative work contained on the physical product is excellent.

Physical product - 1 star
Creative work - 5 stars

Enough with the carbon neutral crap
I would gladly pay a buck or two more for some kind of "green" platic case. As it stands I often have to put my discs into replacement plastic cases after these cheap cardboard ones break or start scratching my discs. I understand the need to conserve the planet's resources, but real... Read More
