Book Description

July 31, 2012
Decades, centuries, and even thousands of years in the future: the horrors inspired by Lovecraft do not know the limits of time...or space. Journey through this anthology of science fiction stories and poems inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft. Listen to the stars that whisper and drive a crew mad. Worship the Tloque Nahuaque as he overtakes Mexico City. Slip into the court of the King in Yellow. Walk through the streets of a very altered Venice. Stop to admire the beauty of the flesh-dolls in the window. Fly through space in the shape of a hungry, malicious comet. Swim in the drug-induced haze of a jellyfish. Struggle to survive in a Martian gulag whose landscape isn't quite dead. But, most of all, fear the future!

Editorial Reviews

Review

"H.P. Lovecraft's tales of cosmic horror often skirt the edge of science fiction...The anthology will give Lovecraft and SF fans a good introduction to one another's worlds" - Publisher's Weekly

4.0 out of 5 stars A fine anthology, just not perfect March 30, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Lately I've been having a craving for Lovecraftian literature, stories about dead gods and mind bending horrors. This did not entirely satisfy that craving. However it remains a good anthology of interesting sci-fi/horror stories. Do not judge the anthology by the first story, which to be honest seems the weakest of them all in my opinion. These writers each have taken the themes of Lovecraft's works, woven in varying degrees of science fiction, and created something that is certainly worth the relatively cheap price of admission.

Bottom line
- good blend of horror and sci fi
- first story is a bit weak (your mileage may vary)
- contains Lovecraftian themes of madness and horrific beings
- Kindle version is a good value

5.0 out of 5 stars A Lovecraftian Scenario I've Never Seen Before... May 20, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I was given "Future Lovecraft" by a friend who knew my love for both the Mythos and novelty, and it didn't disappoint. There are two stories in particular that really stand out.

Most Lovecraftian stories deal with the horrifying elements being hidden (either by nature or design), or their bursting out into the mundane world with rending, apocalyptic consequences. "In The Hall of the Yellow King" and "Tri-TV" show something I've never seen before in a story involving Lovecraft's nightmares. They show humanity adapting, evolving. Coping. Lovecraft predicted that the oncoming singularity of science in the face of universe's vastness would shatter our feeble minds, but Bobby Cranestone (Tri-TV) and Peter Rawlik (In The Hall of the Yellow King) offer a different hypothesis: that humanity's a tough and at times just-as-insane species as anything else lurking out there in the elder dark. Couldn't recommend the collection enough.

3.0 out of 5 stars An mostly enjoyable read with a few A+ storys. November 16, 2012
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I enjoyed this book a great deal. A few of the stories left me bored or worse, but I feel that even the strangest most out of place story was easily forgiven by the truly inspired Lovecraftian stories contained within.

When I saw the other reviews that bespoke of how poor this collection is I thought "How bad could it be?"

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent cosmic horror done with sci-fi
The writing has a pretty wide range in quality and style. Overall, it's pretty well done "cosmic indifference" horror done with more of sci-fi bend.

1.0 out of 5 stars Word Salad; Now In Calamari Flavor
Firstly, I will say I take issue with authors of these stories reviewing this book, with such a small pool of reviews, this is basically akin to insider trading or snake-oil sales. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars A fine book of Lovecraftian speculation breaking the boundaries

1.0 out of 5 stars not worth it, even at $3
First, honesty in advertising: many of the stories aren't Mythos (unless everything with a big horrible alien in it counts as "Lovecraftian" these days). Read more
