5.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't get much better than this...
Classic underground music from my teens remixed using today's underground electronic/techno sensibilities. How much more can one ask for other than perhaps longer versions of a few of the tracks.

Note to naysayers -- these aren't fluffy, cheese trance remixes. Because the remixes are more in tune with the "electroclash/discopunk" sound of the past 5 years...

3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been so much better!!
Since 2005 I have been waiting patiently for this release.
I have to say that the selection of artists remixed is disappointing. The Cure remix is the first track & the highlight for me. It is a heavier remix than the one on the mixed up album. I also enjoyed the INXS remix. New Order's remix was ok but didn't really work I feel. Echo was ok but the Morrissey remix...

Classic underground music from my teens remixed using today's underground electronic/techno sensibilities. How much more can one ask for other than perhaps longer versions of a few of the tracks.

Note to naysayers -- these aren't fluffy, cheese trance remixes. Because the remixes are more in tune with the "electroclash/discopunk" sound of the past 5 years than with the Eurotrance of the late 90s, a lot of the original rock/new wave feel is still present with live bass and guitars incorporated into the techno framework.

Anyone who would like one CD to bridge the 20 years b/w two distinct eras of groundbreaking music needs to own a copy of this!

Fantastic, simply the best Retro 80's CD I own. Would be 5 star rating only a little dissapointed with "White Lines" cover. Apart from this the CD lives in my car and is played always.

4.0 out of 5 stars A refreshing change of pace, January 30, 2006
This review is from: Future Retro (Audio CD)
Okay, dance remix albums are typically not my thing. However, Future Retro knows exactly how to tap into an audience my age. The concept of this collection is to take new wave and pop-rock songs of the eighties and have them remixed by some of today's hottest DJ's. As is the case with most remixes, most of the songs are cut down to a few lines, but the final product still struck a chord with me.

What child of the eighties didn't grow up listening to INXS, The Cure, Howard Jones, New Order, and Devo? It's this kind of familiarity that will draw you into Future Retro. These remixes could never replace the originals, but they're a refreshing change of pace. Might I add, The Cure never sounded so happy.

5.0 out of 5 stars fresh new spins on some of the best the 80s had to offer!, June 21, 2006
This review is from: Future Retro (Audio CD)
This CD is amazing! Some of the remixes are even BETTER than their 80s counterparts, if you can believe that. Yaz's "Situation," Depeche Mode's "Shake the Disease," and Erasure's "Respect" are examples of this, in my opinion. Honorable mention goes to "Need You Tonight" and "Sugar Kisses," in which it can be said that both remixes seem to add a fresh new spins to the originals. However, the updated "Bizarre Love Triangle," while still in keeping with the spirit of the original song, also loses that "oomph" in the process. And the Morrissey remix is just plain ghastly. With the exception of the blended "Morrissey over Morrissey" Christmas caroler effect at the end of the song, it is all over the place in terms of direction. But overall, the CD is a great buy and a must-have for any 80s obsessed music fan. You won't be disappointed!

4.0 out of 5 stars A Modern Blast From The Past, March 9, 2006

This review is from: Future Retro (Audio CD)
Being a teenager during the 80's meant that electro pop was THE music to listen to and this album reminds you what great times they were. Brought up to date by todays DJ's the tracks sound as fresh as when I first bought some of them s 12" singles. The stand out tracks are. Depeche Mode, New Order, INXS, Yaz and Echo and The Bunnymen. Overall a very enjoyable album.

Bringing back the club hits from the 80s mixed into an electronic techno funk, and you have this CD!! I keep playing it over and over. Everyone that hears me play it wants to know where did I get such a mix of 80s club hits??

Overall some good remixes but not enough great ones to warrant purchase. I loved the 80's & most of the artists featured but feel only 1 or 2 tracks do any justice to the originals.

4.0 out of 5 stars Needed to listen a few times..., November 12, 2007

But it grew on me. It is now a staple in my car CD player. Most of the mixes keep the flavor of the originals. Some of them sound totally different. Love it.
