5.0 out of 5 stars Outrageous vocals, October 2, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Future Shock (Audio CD)
Starting with a groovy rhythm of "Is this the future shooock?", the whole album sounds more like a theatrical performance. A one man show. Notorious for his high pitched vocals in Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Gillan delivers another masterpiece, combining hard rock with whimsical funky tunes. His voice soars from one level to another so easily that sometimes it's hard to believe that it's the same person that sings "No laughing in heaven" and "Fight for your dreams". Listen to "No Laughing in heaven", the bizarre theatrical song, where Ian Gillan substites the whole orchestra with his voice. On tracks like "New Orleans" he dives into rhythm and blues, something he has attempted many times and will continue further in his career. Then listen to the lyrical "If I sing softly", and I guess there won't be any more questions about "is this album worth...?" If you're a die-hard Gillan fan, I think you'll share the feeling of a future shock, when you hear an album like this, then put "Born Again" and suddenly remember that these two albums were recorded almost back to back... 2-3 years in between. Ian Gillan is definitely the best rock performer!

5.0 out of 5 stars Gillan Classic, August 31, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Future Shock (Audio CD)
Gillans vocal range on this CD belongs in the Rock n Roll hall of fame. From the hard rockin SACRE BLEU to the almost laughable NO LAUGHING IN HEAVEN to the unbelievable melodic IF I SING SOFTLY this CD is a must for your hard rockin collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hard Rockin' Classic Gillan, November 29, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Future Shock (Audio CD)
Gillan's voice is one of the classic rock & roll voices - this import captures many of his styles.

No Laughter in Heaven has got to be one of the funniest, rockin' songs EVER, and this entire disk jams!
