This review is from: Future of Social Theory (Paperback)
This book is a series of interviews with some important contemporary social theorists. The interviews are pretty good--the interviewer is knowledgeable but isn't out to act like a know-it-all, and the theorists sometimes explain things pretty clearly and in novel ways. For followers of social theory, well worth the $2.50 used price on Amazon.
But $131 or $55 retail? For a book of stock interviews, of just over 200pp.? That's odious. The publisher apparently is just trying to steal from needy scholarly libraries, and the editor should be ashamed to have cooperated. For leftist scholars, this is one more tawdry capitalist undertaking--but they're postmodernists, so calling them unprincipled is not especially an insult, I guess. |
