Sorry Jeff, but like the man said, "it ain't trance". I feel bad for all these jazz heads who get sucked in to titles like this. Obviously they are unfamiliar with the bravado of the techno scene and it's producers. This album is really about good solid electronica of all types with a jazz influence. Quite danceable and "chillable" at the same time. A perfect album on a lazy Sunday for old techno geeks like me who are tired of the genre conformity of the "new" school clubs and undergrounds.

It is definitely *not* trance! Why did anyone say that about this album? To Jeff: check Sasha, John Digweed, Slyder, Tilt, stuff like that, then you will have a better idea about what trance is. Anyway, moving on to *this* album, this is an excellent compilation. It can generally be classified as acid jazz or (or jazz-n-bass if you will). While it may not fall strictly in the confines of the acid jazz label, I don't think the compiler necessarily meant it to anyway. The album is comprised largely of chilled drum n bass beats layered with all sorts of delicious jazzy and "world music elements" (for lack of better descriptors). In fact, in much of the album, the world music elements play a much greater role in creating the aesthetic than the jazz elements do. Overall, the album is developed and mature, and I highly recommend it for acid jazz heads and people with "post-electronica" loungebeats tastes.

Jeff in CA calls this album "trance" but in his eloquence I'm afraid he has forgotten to write something he is familiar with. I have not decided to buy and listen to the whole album, I've just been listening to the sample tracks, but I must amend his comments. The sounds I hear are creative and varied, ranging from funky grooves to jungle/drum 'n bass to layered techno to downtempo and acid jazz. This is far from trance or ambient!

Outstanding compilation of new-age jazz. This 2 cd set offers an excellent selection of artists and variety of instrumental jazz. Highly recommended.

The music on this C.D. transcends jazz in a good way.,

The music on this C.D. is very layered and surrealistic. It is obviously trance, very European feeling. Whether it accurately represents the future of jazz is debatable. However, the synthesized grooves are appropriate with the rich background of keyboards and creative world nuances. Since it is a compilation C.D., the music is varied. On the other hand, listeners not expecting the repetetiveness of trance might be turned off by its hypnotic quality. The music definitely has an ambiance factor, and seems to provide an appropriate backdrop for studying or meditating.
