afro-mystik are in the same catagory as rainer truby, jazzanova and all those other compost guys..great fusion of african rhythms and current jazz feel with breakbeat, downtempo and house..pick it up if you're a fan of any of the forementioned musical genres :]

I think this release is an overall outstanding CD. I would have to disagree with the other reviews about the rap selections. While not being a fan of rap, I find the rap selections have the distinction of being anti rap within the rap context, if you can understand that.
The rap selections clearly add balance and and different texture to round out a truly original grouping of tunes. I had this for about a year and I still enjoy it. The African melodies and mixes with latin flavor really helps to make this a blend of different sounds that is exciting for this genre of music. In my humble opinion, many of us automatically discard rap because of the artists(Who tend to make it easy for us to discard their work due to its content) and don't appreciate the good works when they do appear(Rare though it may be) Having said that, the rap pieces aren't necessarily the best pieces. The rythms of the other tunes weave together an overall picture of tropical beats, salsa, good times and fun in the sun

Long after trance, techno, and other forms of electronica have gone thier merry ways, I'll be thanking God that there are still CDs like this out there. A seductive blend of Urban and Latin elements, mainly Hip-Hop and Salsa with healthy doses of Fusion, Soul and Cuban thrown in. This CD is definitely at its strongest when the guy with the vocals, the mean pseudo-rapper, shuts up with his socio-political rant, and lets the music flow on its own.

This mixture of "afro-latin" rhythms, soul, funk & electronic beats delivers an enjoyable dance groove which will appeal to those who enjoy the "New Latinaires" releases. However, the unfortunate inclusion of several tracks featuring rap interupt the energy of this disc along the way. Some won't object to them, probably, and there's still a lot here to like.

Just as the other reviewer said, It's all good despite the rap tracks. Sometimes you really wish the house artists would leave the rap to the rap artists. Sometimes it works, and most times it doesn't.
