5.0 out of 5 stars A req'd reading for "Futures 101" An Intro to Futures Trad'g
This book is:
1) ONLY for non-futures traders looking to understand the art of commodity trading,
2) illustrating step-by-step of when, what, who, and how of futures trading,
3) depicting how you can win or loss BIG from futures.

This book isn't:
1) an advice on how to WIN,
2) a tool on how to beat the system.

This review is from: Futures 101 : An Introduction to Commodity Trading (2000 Edition) (Paperback)
This book is for those who know nothing or virtually nothing about commodity futures. If you already know even a little about commodity futures, this book is not for you. It is just a foundation. You will not be ready to trade commodity futures after you read this book (and the author does not pretend that you will be), but you will be ready to go on to more in-depth research. The book is light, quick reading.

Since I am a bystander looking to investing in the futures, this is a great book to begin. A perfect Futures for Dummies.

A great book to start out with. The first few chapters were a bit basic, however the meat of the book is in the middle chapters. It offers great unbiased, factual information. While this book alone is not strong enough to start trading on, it lays the perfect foundation to build from. Definately recommeded for the beginning trader/speculator.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for neophytes., November 5, 2004

Neophytes will not find a better explanation of the futures market. How it works, what it is, terms and what they mean. The guy has a gift for explaining what could be confusing in a very straight forward manner that will also stick in your head. You learn more than you think.

I do find the typewriter look to the text annoying. Which is why it is only 4 stars.

And this is a book for someone knowing little or nothing about the futures or commodity markets. But it will get you up to speed very quickly and painlessly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for getting started, November 17, 1998

This review is from: Futures 101 : An Introduction to Commodity Trading (2000 Edition) (Paperback)
This book is great for getting started in futures. It prepares the reader for more advanced books on derivatives. Never boring, with great examples and easy to understand. Before reading anything really sophisticated this book is a must.

5.0 out of 5 stars Never Traded Before? Good Place to Start, March 30, 2007
This review is from: Futures 101 : An Introduction to Commodity Trading (2000 Edition) (Paperback)
This book is a FANTASTIC first book to read about commodities trading. Will it show you how to develop a Chart? NO. Will it teach you how to feel a market? NO. Will it give you the skills to begin trading as a beginner, paper trading or otherwise? NO. But what it will do, and it is a fantastic book for this... It will give the reader, especially a novice/beginner or a person who is interested in exploring "commodities" trading a good base of knowledge, in a simple and uncomplicated way. It will make clear what trading is, what are the ground rules, how it works in theory, and what you will need to do and emulate, to see any success in this complex and interesting field. I have purchased this book 7 or 8 times for several of my friends who 'want to know' what commodities trading is. The explanation of leverage, the concepts of 'longs and shorts' the idea of selling something (going short) is complex to the everyday person. Most people cannot imagine you can sell something (going short) without actually having something, and then buying later to fill your short. My wife is very smart, but she had "never knew" you could do such a thing. So, if you want to 'get the idea' of what commodities trading is, buy this book. It will not overwhelm you, but will help you understand enough (like putting your toe in the water of the pool) to determine if you want to jump in, or just wade in, or if you would rather find something 'less risky'.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for anyone curious about futures, August 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Futures 101 : An Introduction to Commodity Trading (2000 Edition) (Paperback)
This book should have a subtitle: "Everything you wanted to know about futures but were afraid to ask". I received the book around noon, finished up work around five, and the book around ten that night. A delightful work that refreshed my understanding of the whys and wherefores of the futures markets. Written in a witty, wry style, it kept my interest all the way through. Truly broke down and explained in reasonable -- often humerous -- terms a number of mysteries that had never been satisfactorily answered in several other books I've read on the subject. In publishing parlance, a real page-turner.

As a trading novice, I was looking for a book that would clearly explain commodity trading. This book gives the reader exactly that. It was easy to understand. The writer used an interesting writing style that was easy to follow. This book was just what I was looking for. Thank you Mr. Waldron.

If you don't have a good general idea of what futures trading is all about when you finish this book, then you didn't pay attention, and paying attention is fun in this book! It is very well done and unique in its style that makes reading it very enjoyable. Just get the book and you'll be glad you did.

By A Customer
This review is from: Futures 101 : An Introduction to Commodity Trading (2000 Edition) (Paperback)
Covers all the basics with wit and without excess jargon. The author neither encourages or discourages trading in Futures and doesn't have a "system" to sell. A must-read for the novice investor contemplating Futures. Also has an excellent and unbiased review of Hillary Clinton's success in trading commodities.
