5.0 out of 5 stars Better than just a compilation
If you are familiar with his work, which is published around the web and various alternative news weeklies around the country, you might be tempted to think this is just a compilation of those strips put in book format. But it is really more than that - for one thing it easier to browse and enjoy. There are strips here that were either never published, or I missed them...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not funny.
This strip appears in a local free paper. It is dull, political commentary with a rabid left wing point of view. Boring.

But it is really more than that - for one thing it easier to browse and enjoy. There are strips here that were either never published, or I missed them. And when read from front to back, they read like an accurate account of the past three years from a politically savvy, sarcastic genius friend. You'll read some of these strips and be amazed at how exactly right he gets it - *as it is happening!*

Great artist, great book - buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars I'll take Rational America over Real America, November 1, 2008

Tom Tomorrow holds a mirror to Real American readers. Who would think that stating the obvious and great artwork could be so funny?

This is a great holiday gift for any progressive.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than ever!, October 1, 2008
By
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This collection of "This Modern World" weekly cartoons from 2005 through early 2008 is the best yet. Trenchant, political, and very funny - and it's all in color too! I suspect that liberal voters will enjoy it ever so much more than members of the Bush Administration.

The introduction is relatively subtle and quite funny in itself - after disclosing that the cartoon has been outsourced to China, "Tom" then gives a wrong name for the strips and casually mentions that he's looking forward to reading them.

Historians will use it as source material to chronicle the U.S.'s strange political history of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. But you don't have to wait to read their histories, you can enjoy the book now and relive all the low points of the last three years.

5.0 out of 5 stars More terrific content from the amazingly consistent Tom Tomorrow!, November 16, 2008

Buy a copy if you are a thinking "liberal"! Great stuff from the longtime political cartoonist Tom Tomorrow. Timely and well thought out cartoons, devastating to the right wing nut jobs that are so prevalent in this country, and can be read in one sitting (though it may be best to space out the book over a few viewings). Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars He's done it again, October 20, 2008

Tom Tomorrow has done it again--a whole book of political cartoons that make you want to laugh and cry simultaneously. The only reason I could bear to read it is that I know Bush will be out of office in a few months. It's a great gauge of our poltical and social age, and the things that seemed normal at the time, but that will be judged as crazy in a few years (I hope).

5.0 out of 5 stars Put on your shades, October 20, 2008
Tom Tomorrow a/k/a Dan Perkins is extremely insightful when reviewing our current political climate. This book is a must read for all of his fans who may have forgotten his prediction of the tech and housing bubbles, as well as everyone else who do not read his work on a weekly basis. Dpn't just buy one copy, buy several to give as gifts to those who still need enlightening.

Tom Tomorrow is the best satirist anywhere. His strips convey so much truth, insight, and original wit. While obviously liberal, he has no problem poking fun at the deficiencies of the Democrats.

5.0 out of 5 stars We need Tom Tomorrow!, April 5, 2009

Newspapers are dying and political commentary has been reduced to loudmouths spitting food at each other in 30 second sound bites. Thank God for Tom Tomorrow, the most insightful, consistently hilarious political commentator working today.

As a cartoonist, he simply blows away the legion of humorless hacks, with their labels and tired metaphors, that muck up the editorial pages of our dying newspapers.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tom Tomorrow Does It Again, January 27, 2009

Tom Tomorrow is that rare cartoonist who deftly combines sharp political satire with comical hilarity to capture the ridiculousness of modern political discourse in six short cartoon panels. He is a treasure for all Americans, and I hope he lives forever.

His latest highly recommended collection of "This Modern World" strips titled, "The Future is So Bright, I Can't Bear to Look" is of the same high caliber as his previous works. Reading it in the days since Obama's inauguration on Jan. 20 has brought a smile to my face in these dark, turbulent times. It has served as a source of inspiration at the triumph of hope over hate in the 2008 election. Thankfully, all those Tom Tomorrow strips from 2006-2007 seem like ancient dark chapters that are now long past.

While money is tight these days for all of us, we need voices like Tom's to thrive. Show your support for progressive humor and buy Tom's book! I bought three copies and gave two away to friends. And you know what's really funny? One of the recipients is the editor of our local alt-weekly newspaper, which recently dropped This Modern World due to budget cuts. Now he gets to see what he's missing!

5.0 out of 5 stars Getting funnier by the day, January 11, 2009
By
I've been a Tomorrow fan--Hmm, sounds like I'm humming along with an "Annie" soundtrack..NOT--since I first saw his work years ago. When I'm down about something, I pull out his book I already have, can see something I've seen dozens of times before, and wake up my wife with my laughter.(Maybe that's why she gave this one to me for Christmas).

This is even better. There ain't nothin' sacred, thank heaven. One comic that really breaks me up each time I see it is John McCain mixing something up with a hole in the ground. (I'll let you guess). Then there's exposes of Bill O'Reilly's nonsense. Others have Alan Greenspan, there are several with Conservative Jones, Boy Detective and his challenger Moonbat McWacky. None are freed from Tom's mighty pen. Limbaugh? There's lots of "views" of Flatulent Hannity (though I don't know his name is uses), some wonderful observations of Rudy Guiliani, and, yes, even of Hillary! And LOTS of comments on the mainstream media.

I'd be remiss if I didn't let you know of Tom's Penguin commentator, Sparky.

As serious if not devestating as life is these days, you still need to laugh. Tom stimulates the only laughter known to awaken my spouse, and that's a lotta laughs.

The only "sad" thing about this is that Tom Tomorrow is far more observant and perceptive than countless among us who are "educated," especially those representing the press.

Get this one, read it, laugh so the neighbors will wonder what's causing their Richter Scale to quiver a little, then have them learn from it.

And, Tom, keep 'em coming!!
