5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome!, September 15, 2006
When I became pregnant over 8 years ago, I developed CTS which is quite common. My OB-GYN told me that it would go away once I gave birth.

Well, it didn't.

I've been suffering from pain, pins/needles, and numbness for years. The ergonomic keyboard is a godsend, but activities that involve holding or grasping (eating, curling my hair, putting on make up) cause a great amount of discomfort.

My chiropractor thought he could help me, and I also scheduled an appointment at my GP's. A gentlemen did both Nerve Conduction Studies and Electromyographies on me, and it was discovered that I had Carpal Tunnel Syndrome in my right hand. Surprisingly, a lot of my tingling and pain had to do with tendonitis and 'tennis elbow'! Fortunately, chiropractic massage and the TENS unit (transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation) have helped my condition *immensely*.

It was recommended that I use a wrist stabilizer when I slept, regardless of the fact that the condition didn't wake me up at night.

I tried several brands at the pharmacy, and the Futuro Deluxe was the BEST. I've been using it for several weeks now, and it's very easy to get on and off. I can definitely see a difference when I get up in the morning! One night, I forgot to put the stabilizer on, and I could feel a difference!

I also use this produce when I'm relaxing around the house, such as when I'm watching TV or DVDs.

There are three different velcroed areas to adjust for comfort, as well as a comfy padded area for below the fingers. Futuro Deluxe Wrist Stabilizer is designed for CTS, so if you suffer from this condition, this is the best product I've seen so far.

Now, ordering this product online may be a bit tricky in terms of sizing. For example, my hands are quite small (some children have larger hands than I do!), and my forearms are small boned, too. However, when trying on the stabilizers at the pharmacy, I was VERY surprised to discover that the Large-X Large fit the best! I would have never guessed this sight unseen.

I am a computer geek and digital artist. I started experiencing the onset of CTS after ten years of computer work, finally caught up with me even though I spent time and money on good ergo equipment. Turns out it was the arms of my chair, now removed, that lead to the dmg. This purchase was a necessity and here is what I think of the product:

It helps. I'm still a bit sore after my first couple days with this brace and one other that turned out to be to small. It keeps my wrist from bending in extreme computer sitting positions with my mouse hand and I wear it when I sleep with no issues. So in that area, it is worth it.

It has good ventilation. It can get hot here in cali and I have not had problems yet with sweating or to much heat. Seems to breath nicely.

The strap on both ends is a nice working velcro strap of soft cloth, just what it should be and it works. The strap in the middle is one of those stretchy bands a nurse would wrap your tennis elbow in with velcro on the end of it. The stretchy part is nice in that you can set the desired tightness of the overall portion of the brace, the part that sucks completely is that the velcro adheres to this material so well that your slowly shredding away the fibers of the stretchy band thingy. Now I'm not exactly a small guy, and I have problems tearing this blasted thing away from itself every time I try and take it off. I would like to see an old woman try to remove this band, I'm pretty sure she would hurt more parts of her body then the part she was trying to heal. So to you older ladies, gents, and toothpick arms beware. You can get a small workout from this elastic band and velcro if you wear and take off this brace all day long.

On a side note, you can wear this brace to tight and to loose as any other. It will also cause Decubitus sores if you wear it to long, this goes without saying though as sleeping on a wrinkled pillow can do the same thing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent support, August 4, 2004
This review is from: Futuro Deluxe Wrist Stabilizer, Small-Medium, Right Hand,(5.5 to 7.5-Inch) (Health and Beauty)
These braces go half-way up the forearm, so they hold enough of the arm in a straight line to limit wrist motion. The fingers are free, making typing easy, but writing with a pen is more difficult. The Small-Medium size was still too big for me, so I sewed the top strap to shorten it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent wrist brace, February 12, 2007
This review is from: Futuro Deluxe Wrist Stabilizer, Small-Medium, Right Hand,(5.5 to 7.5-Inch) (Health and Beauty)
I am a software developer and so is my wife. She uses a laptop at work, which has a tiny uncomfortable keyboard that she uses the entire day. Naturally, she started having pain in her wrist from the awkward position her wrist had to stay in the entire day. So, we decided to try out some wrist braces at our local walgreens store. We tried a bunch of them, and finally decided on buying this one.

As the other reviewers say, this IS a little pricey compared to the other wrist braces, but, according to me, it is definitely worth the money. Initially, my wife found it to be a little uncomfortable, but eventually she got used to it and would wear it for the entire day without feeling any discomfort. Her pain went away within a week. Now she has a desktop at work, but she still uses this daily and is happy with the results. Whenever I need to work from home and start feeling a pain in my wrists, I use her wrist brace and within hours I feel relief from my pain.

I give the product a 5-star rating. If you suffer from carpal tunnel syndrome or are beginning to feel the symptoms, definitely give this product a try.

5.0 out of 5 stars These have mostly CURED my Carpal Tunnel Syndrome!, October 2, 2006
This review is from: Futuro Deluxe Wrist Stabilizer, Small-Medium, Right Hand,(5.5 to 7.5-Inch) (Health and Beauty)
I'm a computer programmer, and so spend long hours working with keyboard and mouse. When I developed carpal tunnel syndrome several years ago, it started in my right, or "mouse" hand. I never had any pain, but did have quite a bit of tingling and numbness in my all my fingers but the pinkie.

I figured I just needed to switch from a mouse to a trackball. That did help quite a bit, but it wasn't enough, and eventually I had symptoms in both hands. (But I would still recommend trackballs to anybody with mouse-hand CTS!) When things started slipping out of my hands and crashing to the floor, I decided I needed to get serious about this thing and buy some wrist braces to wear at night when I slept. (We CTS people often do most of the damage to our wrists when we SLEEP! Ever wake up with your hand completely numb, like a piece of meat that isn't connected to you?)

I tried several brands, and for several years used ones made by B&B (beige-colored lace-up foam jobs). I don't know how many pairs of those foam braces I wore out, before I finally tried a pair of these Futuro braces.

And that made all the difference: Since I've been wearing these braces when I sleep, my carpal tunnel syndrome symptoms are all but gone!

Now, of course, "your mileage may vary", and so these Futuro wrist braces might not work for you as well as they did for me. So you might want to try, as I did, several brands and models, until you find ones that work best for you. Come to think of it, if your health insurance covers it, you should first try the ones you doctor prescribes for you: That might save you some expensive trial-and-error.

Speaking of "expensive", that's the one negative of these braces: They are on the pricey side, and they don't last as long as I'd like. I seem to get about a 6-10 months or so of wear out of them before I have to buy new ones. In fact, that's why I came here tonight: I was shopping for new Futuro wrist stabilizers to replace my tattered worn out pair. I ended up writing this review instead! BTW: The best price I've found for these is on (shhh ... don't tell Amazon) EBay, but EBay sellers seem to get you shipping charges. So shop around! :-)

This product is of a low quality, the metal insert will pierce the fabric after a month of use.

There is no warranty to the product.

3.0 out of 5 stars Meh, January 5, 2009

I have larger forearms and small wrists. This did not work for me at all. This is really more a problem with me than the brace, but I want to let people know who may be in the same boat. If your forearms are a little meaty look for something else. This was way too loose in the wrist to be useful for me and when I tightened it enough to stabilize my wrist it cut into my arm painfully.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only thing keeping me knitting and typing!, July 12, 2010
By
This review is from: Futuro Deluxe Wrist Stabilizer, Small-Medium, Right Hand,(5.5 to 7.5-Inch) (Health and Beauty)
I developed carpal tunnel syndrome back in '95, after working retail all through college and a couple years out. Through a combination of repetitive denim folding and always being assigned to the same register (using my left hand to key all the time), I started waking up with a numb left hand. It eventually hit my right hand too, as I started to favor the left. I went to an orthopedic surgeon, and when my hands went numb within 30 seconds, he said "whoa, that's bad". I was instructed to buy wrist braces and take a heavy duty anti-inflammatory drug. The pills made me nauseous, so I stopped them, but the braces worked wonders. The first set I got were by Futuro, but then there weren't that many brands at the time. I've tried a few other brands since, but always come back to Futuro. I currently have this pair I'm reviewing, and they seem to get better with every tweak they make to the design.

I've lost count of how many pairs I've had in the past 15 years, maybe 5 or 6? I don't have to replace them that often, they really seem to hold up for me. One reviewer mentioned the metal splint poking through very quickly, but I've only experienced that with mine after wearing them for a couple years. Perhaps he got a bad batch, or maybe I've just been lucky.

The original ones I bought in '95 didn't have the best velcro, were hot and sweaty, had no padding and caused chafing near the thumb hole. They also smelled like a stinky foot, even with weekly washing. But they were my only option if I was to function, so I stuck it out. They've improved the design with every incarnation, and these are great. The padding at the palm really makes a difference, the strap across the top of the thumb is a soft terry cloth-like material, and the edges are softer than they were in the past. I wear them at night, and occasionally during the day when I've had a marathon typing/crafting session and they go numb during the day. Right now, they seem to be worse than usual, so I'm happy these braces feel as good as they do, because I'm getting my money's worth. I have no plans to have surgery since I've gotten mixed reactions from doctors, patients and from what I've read, so until I no longer have a job where I use a computer (not likely), and no longer knit, paint, garden and make jewelry (god forbid!), I'll be wearing my Futuro braces (and possibly knit little covers for them - the beige is so...not my skin tone, and definitely not cute).

This is an absolutely necessary product. I fyou have carpal tunnel and wake up at night in pain this will stop it immediately.

It worked for me. If you are at a computer buy this product anyway. Ii will help you prevent carpal tunnel and maybe avoid surgery.

But one for each hand.
