The Furries' first LP has many qualities of a typical debut from a great band: lots of energy, simplistic delivery, and plenty of raw promise. That the music is already polished pretty well speaks volumes about the talent. Instead, the Furries evolved and adapted their sound rahter than cleaning it up.

The biggest flaw on Logic is the short-term inability to do the slower, dreamier pop they'd perfect in the next few years. Indeed, almost all of Logic's best moments come on the short and fast rockers that pepper the first half of the album. The quieter "Mario Man," on the other hand, is kind of sluggish and "Hangin' With Howard Marks" is a really good three-minute gem, drawn out on a deliberate (but unfortunate) pace that stretches it beyond four. And "Long Gone" drags on where it tries to be almost operatic. Luckily, the Weezer-esque "For Now and Ever" ends things on a high note. But almost all of the first eight tracks are winners; maybe if they'd mixed in the slower stuff with the frantic material it might have been better.

But three mediocre ones in a row transforms its value; they almost had a near-masterpice their first time out! Even if there's no instant classic in the mix, it's a far easier album than their follow-up. They were smart that way: wait until the fanbase grows before challenging them.
