Book Description

January 1, 1998
""Fuzzy Logic" really is about how the Internet and related technologies have infiltrated our daily lives, how it is changing established social patterns, eroding older technologies at a hugely accelerated rate. There is a social cost to this kind of change, and a personal sense of loss or melancholy. Friedman evokes this bittersweet feeling without wallowing in it. More importantly, Friedman, with considerable good humour, deflates some of the more egregious babblings of the techno-Messiahs who would have us believe that we have reached a digital state of grace." - Mark Shainblum, "Internet Quarterly."

Editorial Reviews

Review

Fuzzy Logic is really about how the Internet and related technologies have infiltrated our daily lives, how it is changing established social patterns, and eroding older technologies at a hugely accelerated rate. The way Friedman evokes memories of his first typewriter in the opening chapter of the book is almost worth the cover price all by itself.

Rarely has a technology been superseded so quickly and so thoroughly by another in so short a time. There is a social cost to this kind of change, and a personal sense of loss or melancholy. Friedman evokes this bittersweet feeling without wallowing in it, without becoming maudlin. More importantly, Friedman, with considerable good humour, deflates some of the more egregious babblings of the techno-Messiahs who would have us believe that we have reached a digital state of grace. The world is still the world, even with the Internet. -- Mark Shainblum, Internet Quarterly

1.0 out of 5 stars A warning to FUZZY LOGIC researchers, April 8, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Fuzzy Logic: Dispatches from the Information Revolution (Paperback)
This book is not a textbook of fuzzy logic which is a logic based on Zadeh's fuzzy sets. You should not look forward to readily learning fuzzy logics by reading this book. (Unfortunately, it means me.) For the contents of this book, please read the other reviews deeply. However, the subtile of this book and the fact that customers who bought this book also bought "Fuzzy Sets and Fuzzy Logic: Theory and Applications" on Amazon.com, are very misleading to customers.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book, December 13, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Fuzzy Logic: Dispatches from the Information Revolution (Paperback)
Fuzzy Logic is the best book of its kind that I've read. Friedman gets straight to the heart of things, and doesn't get caught up in the techno-gobbledegook that mars so many other books like this.

It's a significant acheivement and an IMPORTANT book. A must read for anyone who really wants to know what's going on with new media and new technologies.
