An album of the only band you need to know...,
By N. S. Haque (Berlin, Germany) - See all my reviews

Wow! Made hot by seeing the "Northern Lites" video on TV, I went out to find "Guerrilla," but only found "Fuzzy Logic." A true hit. This is an album that gives you so many different styles of music, you could get to know all by hearing one. How can someone hate SFA with a passion? I don't understand...

Coming right at the height of what the world knows as Britpop, Fuzzy Logic is a wonderful masterpiece filled with rocking guitars and gorgeous melodies. Gruff's (pronounced Griff) voice is strikingly superb for a first record, and his bandmates equal the quality on every single song. This is by far the furries most straight ahead rock disc. Albums like Mwng and Guerilla bounce through many many styles, while the amazing Radiator acts as a bridge. Just buy this.

One of the first albums I bought just for a laugh, it is now one of my most treasured possesions, up there with my dear mother. From the bizarre fuzzy logic, which rambles beautifully on about hamsters, to the punk of Bad Behaviour. If there is a heaven, the super furry animals will be playing there sometime.

Ammmbient,

I suppose there is nothing on earth entirely perfect, and everything must have a flaw, however small. The only flaw I can find with this album is that it finishes too soon.Beautiful melodies played under the most tragically heartbreaking of lyrics, sung in a voice that sounds the aural equivalent of a kicked puppy. From Gathering Moss, with its sublime loneliness and depth of feeling, to the throwaway fun of Bad Behaviour and Hanging With Howard Marks, the tunes drift along dreamily, settling into your subconscious as if it had always been there. It is not fair to give SFA comparisons to punk, pop or Dylan: they are a beautifully anarchic folk band who somewhere along the line were handed guitars. We can only be thankful for that.

SFA are more than OK,
This review is from: Fuzzy Logic (Audio CD)
Thankyou SFA for this masterpiece. I have owned this album forseveral years, but it still makes me shudder every time I hear thestrange lyrics and unusual bass lines. PLease buy this album and enjoy Welsh music in its purest (and mashed) form. Nothing I can say can give this album justice. And seeing SFA live at the Brixton Academy was one of the highlights of my life! Songs such as God! Show Me Magic and Fuzzy Logic are amazing and cannot be surpassed by any band except for SFA themselves in later albums (namely Radiator). The best Indie/Rock/Alternative album available on the world market.

A remarkable debut,
This review is from: Fuzzy Logic (Audio CD)
Super Furry Animals exploded onto the scene in 1996 with this remarkable debut. I remember the first time I heard the band name, I thought it was incredibly stupid. There were a lot of flash in the pan bands in the mid 90s. However, when I listened to Fuzzy Logic, all that changed. The cover art is great. It features Howard Marks, the notorious Welsh drug smuggler and master of disguise, who is now an acclaimed author and highly amusing raconteur. Indeed, one of the (weaker) songs on this album is called "Hanging With Howard Marks", which I am sure the band do from time to time, given his notoriety and his wicked sense of humour. Gruff Rhys, the lead singer with Super Furries, sounds a bit like a Welsh Ray Davies. His voice is very unique and identifiable whenever you hear it. The collection of songs here ranks up there with among the best of Super Furries work. "God! Show Me Magic" is a great driving rock song, with great piano accompaniment. "Fuzzy Birds" is more pastoral Welsh folk. "Something 4 The Weekend" is probably the best track. The chorus is infectious. "Frisbee" is another good rocker. "Hometown Unicorn" is a psychedelic folk music. "Gathering Moss" is a pretty folk tune. "If You Don't Want Me To Destroy You" is an incredible ballad. "Bad Behaviour" is another driving rocker. Overall this album is an eclectic mix of straight forward rockers mixed with slower, folky song with a psychedelic tinge. From here, Super Furries would deliver many more brilliant albums. Buy this to start with. I can guarantee it won't be the last Super Furries album you will purchase ! Once you listen to them, you're hooked.

Can anyone, except the biggest fan of supermarket can American Idol music, NOT like an album that features the bursting line "first time, I did it for the hell of it. Stuck it on the back of my tounge and then swollowed it."
If you are in that NOT, you're on the wrong page. Go in peace and enjoy some Susan Boyle. The nasil singer is not talking about gum. He does not have the strongest voice--but he sings with such swagger, such matter-of-fact attitude about his recklessness, we completely beleive him. His unrepentant frankness draws us in This is the kind of confidence this whole band displays on Fuzzy Logic. This is not the most carefully written music--although it is a damm good glam-punk-colored copy of 1960s British harder-edge psych. But the way this music rocks is so convincing, so impossible to fake, you have to love this band for being unrepentant psych punks. These guys rock. With tye dye, and attitude, and with these Animals, that is more than you ever need .

This album makes me proud to be Welsh! its an unbeatable combination of quirky inventiveness, lyrical flights of fancy and some downright swoonworthy melodies. This album can go from brash to hauntingly beautiful in a moment... standout tracks include the delicate "Gathering Moss" and the anthemic "Hometown Unicorn". All up, poptastic! buybuybuy.

A new breed of great Welsh rock. by A.E. Jones,

Welsh rock music is at an all time high, and with this first album SFA have shown they are up they with best, not just in Wales but around the world. This is one of the most imagnative albums for years, write up there with 'The White Album', sharing the same comic/tragic tones with a great intensty and depth. It's hard to pick bad points from what is a multi layed, beautifully performed and well thought out piece music. It reminds me of my very best days and my all time worst, its both a message to future rock music and a throw back to the past. It would be hard to respect anyone who didn't enjoy this album.
