The play is addicting - you can play immediately but the longer you do it the more you learn and the tricks are fun and visual.

Bought one after reading about it in a "must have" toys for 2011 article. Grandson loved it. Over the Thanksgiving holiday the toy was out - adults picked it up and it was non-stop for hours. The play is addicting - you can play immediately but the longer you do it the more you learn and the tricks are fun and visual. Dark rooms become playgrounds - I had to buy more so the kids could have theirs back.

This is an up-to-date version of an old-fashioned toy made from string and a large button. My grandchildren, great-nieces and great-nephews love it, especially in the dark. This toy is very good for coordination. The service was excellent from this merchant.

I saw a video of this item and ordered them for Christmas gifts. I am really excited to see how the children react to this toy.
I enjoy finding something different and fun for my grandchildren! I think the LED lights are amazing!

I bought these as an advent calendar "stuffer", an inexpensive perk to break up the monotony of chocolates. My daughters, ages 12 and 11, LOVED them, and their friends are asking for them for birthdays, Christmases, etc. My older daughter is 17 and hasn't shown an interest in them, so they're battling between the two who gets to buy hers from her. The girls are using their imagination to create different patterns of light, spinning them, fluttering their arms to create flowers, letters, etc. Despite using them extensively, the strings haven't broken, and the lights haven't failed. I even got smacked in the mouth with one of them, and it didn't hurt too badly.

turn out the lights. Hold the strngs out
twirl the dual led unit in the center
It is easy enough that my 7 year old could do it, and cool enough to watch that I loved taking a try.

Picked them up for holiday gifts after we tried our first one! Just a lot of fun, simple, and it works.

Yeah, I must be missing something. It's a light on a string.
We just got this for my son (actually we purchased 3).
Nobody liked it.
??? I don't get it - why have people give this thing 5 stars ????

**** NOW I GET IT ****
My son just needed to get the hang of it.
He loves it. It looks stupid but, it's entertaining for a 4 or 5 yr. old.
And...at a party...adults seem to like it too. (That I don't get.) :-)

I wish I could explain in a review how fun this toy is. I first heard about them from raves (these are called "orbitals" in rave culture) but I wanted a cheap version of the toy since I'm not really one to actually go to raves, or one to spend $30+ on LEDs. When I got my first set of three, I was pleasantly surprised and instantly addicted.

I've bought this set of three not once, but 7 times. I gave all my extra ones away to friends when they showed an interest in them, and I would say about half of my friends played with the toy for a week or two, and a quarter played for more than three weeks. Of the 21 orbitals I bought and tested, one broke quickly and one didn't light up well to begin with.

I wouldn't recommend it for extremely young kids. To use this toy to its fullest extent, you need to learn to keep the rotation of the LEDs going by pulling on the string. This makes the orbital spin extremely fast without much effort on your part. The downside of this is, people like to spin it so fast you can hear it loudly moving through the air, which can hurt if you get hit by one. You can only hurt yourself if you're being stupid.

Theres two things that I absolutely love about this toy. First, it attracts a wide range of people of all ages. A kid would love it, since its technically designed for them. I'm in college and everyone I know is in love with these now. My friends and I have shown older friends and they've all loved it too. Strangers have come up to us when they saw us playing with them and were amazed at how fun the toy is.

My second favorite thing is, once you understand how to use the toy, its incredibly easy to make awesome shapes. Anyone can do it, and it looks awesome every time.

I received this in the mail today. Pretty fast shipping considering it was coming from the UK. Opened the package to test one of them out before giving the other two away... Broke and hit me in the face. OUCH!
